VMS 7 - Seperate Video from Audio

How do I seperate the audio from the video in VMS7? For example, how do you delete just the video, but leave the audio (or delete audio and leave the video)?

One of the things I like about 7 over 6 is that when you put two split points, you just click on the section inbetween, hit delete, and it removes both (with 6 you had to delete each part seperately) - but at times like this, I need the old way back.... I know it can do it - I just can't figure out how.

Select the segment and hit the "U" key to ungroup - at least that's how I do it in Vegas. I assume it's the same in VMS.

If you only have a single video clip grouped with its audio clip, you can ungroup and delete just the audio, as suggested. (By default, the video and audio items are grouped together when you drag them to the timeline.)

However, if you have constructed a group of multiple clips or photos or whatever on the timeline, then "ungroup" might not be a good way to do it (because you lose your group). Instead, just momentarily enable the "Ignore Event Grouping" button at the top of the screen. I think it looks like a padlock in front of some squares.

Click the icon to enable "Ignore Event Grouping", then select the audio and delete, then click the icon again to disable the Ignore Event Grouping feature.

If you want the "delete" function to work like it did with Version 6, there is an option somewhere in the preferences to do it.

(But this is all from memory -- I'm not at a computer with Vegas or VMS)
