VMS 9.0 Thumbnails on Events Wrong

Just started editing 1080 60i video (from the Panasonic AG-HMC40) on an HP with a quad-core Athlon processor on VMS 9.0b.

One quirk I've noticed is that at the end of most events on the timeline it displays a thumbnail picture from a totally different event (not even from the previous or next event on the timeline).

The picture that displays in the preview window is the correct one throughout the entire clip, it only shows an incorrect thumbnail pic on the timeline.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a fix?

When capturing AVCHD, the first frame or 3 of the next scene are left at the end of that scene. Therefore, it "appears" that you're seeing a different clip when, in fact, you're seeing those left-overs at the tail of that clip. Shorten the clip to get rid of the extra frames and that will go away.

jetdv:

by "capture" do you mean the process of reading the source data directly from the video cam into Vegas? I'm asking because I've never noticed this frame-retention when simply copying MTS files from my cam's memory card onto my PC and then accessing these from the Vegas Media pane.

No. By capturing I meant using the capture application to capture from tape. If you're copying the files directly, that should not be an issue.

The AVCHD clips I'm editing weren't "captured." I just copied the files directly from the SDHC card to my hard drive and then imported the media into my project.

I tried shortening then lengthening the clip and the thumbnails still show incorrectly.

I believe that Jet is referring to a glitch that is known for HDV (which is captured from tape). I haven't seen any reports for it for AVCHD, which is stored (as you point out, not captured) typically on HDD, SDHC or DVD. I haven't seen it in my own AVCHD either.
