VMS 9 high definition rendering bitrate

Vegas Movie Studio Platinum Version 9.0 (Build 55) running under Vista Ultimate on Sony VGN-AR790U/B laptop with all the latest updates installed.

It seems that I am unable to set the video rendering bitrate for Sony AVC type templates to any value higher than 20,000,000 bps. When I type a larger value, it snaps back to 20,000,000 automatically.

Am I doing something wrong or is this done on purpose to prevent users from producing professional quality video?

Also, for MPEG-2, the only option I see is the MainConcept MPEG-2, which doesn’t even allow customizing bitrates at all as the “Custom” button on the “Render As” screen is disabled for this type.

Thank you

Adjusting mpeg bitrates when rendering is only available in the Pro version.

That's probably what you're running into with the AVC templates. VMS will allow you to go only so high, any higher requires the Pro version. Can't say for sure but that's my guess.

Thank you for the quick reply.

Is there a bit-rate governor on the MPEG-2 encoder in the pro version?

Does the pro version have Blu-ray H.264 MPEG-4 AVC encoding capability, and how high of video bitrates does it allow?

My interests include making animated slideshows from very good quality still images, and projects like this greatly benefit from reduced compression ratios.
