VMS HD cannot export AVCHD with 5.1 dolby digital!

Be aware: there's a serious bug in VMS HD edition. Sony is selling this software claiming it can export in AVCHD format AND dolby digital. This is not true, due to a known bug it is NOT possible to maintain your 5.1 Dolby Digital audio, you have to downgrade to stereo and then export AVHD. If you don't, you'll get a chunky result with choppy video and audio sync issues.

This is what sony says: I received an update from development. This specific issue is something that is logged as a bug with our development team.

The Pro version does not have this problem, Sony shamelessly offered me an upgrade to Pro for $245 !!! Three times what I spend on VMS HD. They will not solve this problem and keep ' advertising' incorrect specs.

Can I ask which template you use?

I render to 1440x1080/60i 5.1 surround sound and have no problem rendering, nor playing the files on my ps3 (or on my computer).

OR

Are you trying to make BD disc? That is a different story.

I've tried the default template (AVCHD 1440 50i AC3 5.1) and almost any combination within the Sony AVC setting. Also on 2 different, new PC's.

The problem occurs after the first 5 or 6 minutes of rendered movies.

What is your source footage?

Mine is 1440x1080/60i and I render to the same.

Source footage is also 1440x1080 50i. I'm using win7 64bit. What OS do you use? I can't remember having this bug with winXP.

Vista 32.

The difference I see is that 60i works, 50i doesn't. Just an observation. Carry on.

Yes, so far, 60i vs. 50i. Also OS (Vista vs. Win 7/XP).

I know that there is an issue with the surround sound if you export to a Blu-Ray format (you can't due to template restriction). But AVCHD should work from my (and others') experience.

Not sure if this helps:

I was having problems playing back VMS "Sony AVCHD" files (1920x1080 60i 16Mbps CABAC) streaming through a PlayStation3: So I changed my workflow to separately export the 5.1 audio file and the AVCHD video-only file; then I mux them to a .TS file in a separate step with tsMuxer. They now play fine in PS3 and Win7. (But I know it's frustrating to have to use a separate tool.)

That is absolutely true!
The only solution i found was to use TSmuxer after the render.
This tool fix the playback problem.

Where in the Hell Sony will release any update for this software?

Another solution is to use the Pro :) (Gotcha?)
