There's lots of differences between the two. Here's a link:

Some major ones for me:

Unlimited tracks
The ability to run scripts
Full control over MPEG2 render settings
Pan/Crop masking
etc...

I just took the plunge because I needed more video and audio tracks.

I've come to find out that the performance is very sluggish compared to Plat Pro 9. I've opened a question to the fine people on Pro forum re: this so hope to have something back later today.

In general, from what I've found so far, the look and feel is very similar to Platinum 9. If you're comfortable w/ Platinum 9 the learning curve is low.

If you don't need the features jetdv mentioned above, and more tracks, I'd say stick with Platinum 9.

There are tricks around getting more tracks by pre-rendering sections that need more tracks, then insert that video file into the section and add 3 more tracks but as you re-render more the original video becomes degraded.

I've worked it to where I edit the main videos and transitions on the first 4 tracks, render this then do the text transitions last.

I went with V9 hoping to minimize the pre-rendering fiasco and increase efficiency in my workflow and productivity. The jury is still out as to whether I'll be able to use V9 w/out upgrading my PC, which won't be for at least a couple of months.

Hope this helps.

but as you re-render more the original video becomes degraded.

But only if you render to a compressed format. If you render to something like uncompressed AVI you should see no degradation. It will make the (intermediate) file size very large .. but that's a price to pay for not being compressed.

Once you render to your final format it will be as compressed as it normally would.
