VMSP 8 won't recognize Pinnacle 500-USB

I use VMSP for everything, except for capturing movies from a VCR. I connect my VCR via a Pinnacle 500-USB adapter but when I try to capture the video nothing happens.
In the video capture (V6.0) mode in the video drop down menu you can find the "Pinnacle System 500-USB device", I select it, the computer thinks for a moment but nothing happens. Also, the device is not shown in the audio drop down menu.

So I have to use Pinnacle Studio 10 to capture my videos, but performance is bad.

I really want to uninstall Studio 10 from my PC but I need it since I transfer a lot of VCR to DVD videos.

Please help.

P.S. I don't have any problem transfering videos from my Panasonic Video camera via Firewire. In case this info is important

Traditionally, as far as I remember, Pinnacle hardware is very much anti "anything but pinnacle software". They made it so the device would be "unavailable" to all apps, except Pinnacle, and I think the only exception I can remember is....*thinks*. AmCap. (google it) - it's a tiny application.
Takes a little tweaking, but wiill get you a good transfer into VMS.

Slightly hazy memory, so there is room for error, but hope it helps

Thank you Kenny.

I think I'll buy an internal capture board. You know any brand that it's compatible with VMS???

Canopus is really good for the money. The ADVC 300 includes a time-base corrector which really helps a lot when capturing from analog video tape.

Personally i think their line of external devices are a much better value than the internal cards they sell. The external boxes connect to your computer through firewire so Vegas will see it as if it is a mini-DV camcorder.
