VMSP10 Black clips

washedup wrote on 8/1/2011, 10:32 AM
I know there is quite a lot of fixes for this issue mentioned on several help videos, but I just can't seem to get this problem fixed.

If I save a project and come back to it, now and again one or more of the clips will not show in the preview pane. If I render the project it is all there no problems.

Have tried all the suggestions I can find to fix this including re-loading Quick time, which seems to help sometimes but eventually I end up getting the same problem.

Any ideas?

Sorry Musicvid, should have put this info before.

System: AMD 64x2 Dual 4400+ 2.31 Ghz with 2GB
Dont have media info but the file type are MOV which are using the qt7 plug in Version 1.0 Build 7330

Quicktime version is 7.6.9

Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD 10 Platinum. Build 179

Project is not too taxing, just some video for youtube.

Many thanks.

MediaInfo is a free download.

As soon as you can tell us what's inside the MOV wrapper, or at least the camera it was shot on, the better the chance that someone will be able to help you.
Also your OS?

Hi Musicvid, will have a look for mediainfo but in the mean time it was shot using a Kodak Playsport Zx3

In the properties of one of the clips there is the following info.
Video. 1280x720x24 29.970 fps progresive 00:15:2

Audio. 48,000 hz 16 bit, stereo 00:15:22:04 AAC

I am using Windows XP with all up to date service packs.

Thanks again for your help.

Install the trial of Vegas Platinum 11 TRIAL in parallel and check if the bug still exists. If not, upgrade.

Hi Eugenia, ok will give that a try.

Had a bit of a breakthrough with it today. Previously I had tried cutting the clip and starting again with the original file but the same result, a black screen. Today I was working on the video and decided that I needed to move the clip in the timeline, low and behold the clip started working again!

Not sure what this says about the problem but I will try the same again if it happens again to see if it is a fix.

I have a dual core laptop, slower than yours, and 720p files from my Play Touch work smooth as butter. I'm using Vegas Pro 8 and Quicktime 7.6.2

You are not the first to report some issues with the latest Quicktime 7.6.9
Nick on the Vegas Pro forum has completely given up on it.
One thing to try is rolling back to an earlier QT version and see if that helps.
There is nothing in your system that should prevent you from working with your 720p zx3 files smoothly.

Your last post indicates you may not understand the settings for previewing from the trimmer as opposed to the timeline. If that is the real issue, the Help, Tutorials, and forum Search feature are your friends. Best of luck.

Is it true that VMS 10 and 11 no longer use or need quicktime?

I am pretty sure the problem is due to Quicktime, as today I tried the 7.6.2 version which actually made the issue worse. When I re-started I now had 50% of the clips which did not show when I play the timeline. I then deleted Quicktime and re-installed the latest version which meant I then had only the original one clip which would not play.
One stragne thing though is that looking at all the help videos online the clips always appear black in the timeline. On mine the clip is normal in the timeline but will not play video just the sound as it comes to that clip in the timeline.

Shame there seems to be this issue, as I think the SVMS is a fantastic tool for the price.
