You need to open the Windows Volume Control panel and choose the
correct input.

Double click the little yellow speaker icon in your task tray (it should be
somewhere near the clock display in the lower right corner ofthe screen.)

Click Options, Properties, select Recording. "Under Show the following
volume controls:" you will see a list of the inputs available. Make sure
there is a checkmark next to all the ones you will want to use. Click OK.

You will now be looking at the Recording Control panel, with various
volume control sliders for each input, and a very important "Select"
checkbox at the bottom of each one. Select the input you wish to use;
only one may be active at a time. You can also use the volume slider
to adjust the recording level.

Typically your sound driver requires you to specify which item (mic or auido input) is enbled for recording. You can select none or one input. Try looking at the properties under your volume control.
