Yes. Check the manual, this is all covered quite well.

yea, i think you would have to make different .ac3 files for each voice over

for example:

english version:

MPEG: movie.mpg
AC3: english_movie.ac3

spanish version:

MPEG: movie.mpg
AC3: spanish_movie.ac3

(notice the same mpg is reused while the ac3 is changed)

As for different subtitles I think you would have to create different mpegs for each subtitle:

german_english: german_movie.mpg
spanish: spanish_movie.mpg
french: french_movie.mpg

I don't think it's possible to save the settings like motion picture DVDs, I've never sucessfully done this but I'm assuming this is how you do it, if it's not Someone please correct me. Also I don't really think you can do these things on the standard 4.7GB disc without lowering the quality of the video/audio.

You would need the 9GB. I think they are made by Ritek.

Basically you'll just be creating multiple menus that look the same, but select different audio tracks when the movie PLAY button is selected.

Let's suppose you have a main menu that has something like:

Play movie
Setup
Deleted Scenes

When you select the "setup" option, this take you to:

Directors Commentary
Stereo
5.1 surround

Clicking the 5.1 surround link takes you to a menu that is actually an exact duplicate of the main menu, the difference is that the "play movie" button on this menu specifies to use the 5.1 track rather than the stereo track. Likewise "Directors Commentary" takes you to a duplicate menu with a "Play Movie" button that enables the track with the directors commentary.

You don't need a different MPEG for each subtitle - subtitles work very much like audio tracks in the sense that you simply select the subtitle language you want.

Why not just change the "Set Audio Stream" property for the three Setup menu buttons? No need for duplicate menus or using the Play button to set the stream.

Depends on what you want - most hollywod DVD's simply "record: the setting and then take you back to the main menu - if you want to immediately go to play movie with the selected stream, then your technique is fine.

Hm?

I haven't changed the route to the movie, only the method of changing audio streams. It does just as you say, it "records" the setting and goes back to the main menu. It works just as the "Hollywood DVDs" do.

Main Menu:
* Play Movie -> Plays the movie
* Setup -> links to setup menu

Setup Menu:
* Main Menu -> returns to main menu
* English -> link to main menu, sets audio stream to 1
* Italian -> link to main menu, sets audio stream to 2

Viewer then hits Play button the main menu, and the appropriate audio stream is played. I don't have the need to do this often, but I've done it, and it works just fine for me.

Got it - me bad. I thought that the audio stream would get reset, but I see that's not the case if you don't mess with it on the main menu.

see now i'm confused, what exactly english -> and italian -> pointing to

Is it pointing to a different menu?

I thought it was impossible to do this without having 2 menus unless when you want to the setup screen and clicked the enlgish or italian button it plays from that menu

I think in DVD-A3 it should have the options to change menu in real time like the Holly Wood DVDs or do they duplicate the main menu as well?

Wow, thanks everyone! I appreciate the info. There's still so much I have to learn, and every day, I feel better and better about buying this software over the cheap competitors. Well worth the price, and the forums here are great. Thanks again :-)
