VP 13 crashing when importing a mp4 file using Wirecast on a Mac

carlos-g wrote on 9/29/2016, 8:31 PM

My church recently bought a Blackmagic Express to record video and I am using Wirecast to actually record so that I can eventually live stream. I was able to process and render the mp4 video last week, but this week, the mp4 file is causing Vegas Pro 13 to hang up and crash. I am using a Mac to record, but an HP with Vegas Pro 13 to edit and render. I am using Wirecast Play to record and eventually stream. If it didn't work last week, I would have thought that there was a compatibility problem going on; so I am at a loss as to what is going on. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Can you make a short test again (record only) after the live stream event, and test put the recorded MP4 into VP13 ?

Just a little test if the problem occured due to the possibly broken MP4 file or something not right on the OS / Wirecast. And, if the newer MP4 still causing an error on your VP13, can you post a small recorded sample from your Wirecast system so any VP13 users here can try test your video file?

I'm not at the church until after work tomorrow, so I uploaded the video in question to my Google Drive account. What is strange about it is that it plays through the media player in Windows 10, but crashes Vegas 13. The mp4 file I uploaded is 1.46 gig

I noticed the frame rate of this video is 21.874 FPS ? Also, on VLC, resolution is 1920x1090 ?

As seen in VLC and Win Media player, the motion is not really smooth. How's the motion on the live stream version?

In VP14 I get the same result as Set. Green screen, no thumbnails, variable frame rate, not smooth in VLC.

Update: Hitfilm4 Express can successfully open the file. First time dropped to timeline and play, no audio heard, but after giving some minutes, the audio appear. I suggest you to use it to reexport your video to new MP4, and try put new MP4 to VP13.

Yes, there is a framerate problem, get the same result: green screen

Frame rate mode                    : variabel
Frame rate                               : 21,874 FPS
Minimum frame rate               : 0,811 FPS
Maximum frame rate              : 30,000 FPS

Original frame rate                    : 30,000 FPS

Chroma subsampling               : 4:2:0
Bit depth                                  : 8 bits
Scan type                                : progressiv

I' ve converted it with handbrake (Preset: normal) with a constant framerate of 30,
and it works but it jerky terribly due to the variable framerate at the original file

What do i need to change in either Wirecast or Blackmagic to get good frame rates? I didn't change it from the default HD setting while setting it up. The only thing i did differently was set up a limited user so that my film crew doesnt need the administrator password.

By the way, thank you all!

Yall are awesome!!!

I doubt the Blackmagic Express would deliver a variable framerate so it must be Wirecast. I don't know the specifics but you want to set it to constant frame rate if you can. A quick Google search for "wirecast constant frame rate" throws up a few results. I've only encountered variable frame rates on phone footage (and maybe YouTube) but they've never really been variable. They were at or very close to a constant frame rate. The MediaInfo for your file (in Quitter's post) indicates that the frame rate might actually be varying quite a lot.

carlos-g wrote on 9/30/2016, 10:18 AM

I will try using Handbrake to see if this file is fixable and will also check my Wirecast settings tonight. I'm meeting my video guru at the church to adjust lighting and camera exposure.

Thank you again😊

Before I have Atomos to record my multicam system a year ago, I depends on Blackmagic Express, recording directly from ATEM TV Studio via USB2 cable - and I have no issue of variable frame rate. It is constant 25p. So, high possibility it is from Wirecast.

As for Live Stream, I use separate 'machine' for that, so each one working by it's own (Having 2 outputs). Still learning with Live Stream.

Here's my last live stream last June:

My current challenge is audio-video sync issue.
