VP crashes when I try to render

Rich Parry wrote on 1/20/2026, 10:19 PM

I’ve been using VP about two decades, for the past decade after I select FILE/RENDER, VP crashes (see below). Because I am retired and have nothing better to do, I have learned to live with it. I reboot or restart the PC and I can eventually render.

I turn 80 this year and I’m running out of time. Because I love VP and have nearly 500 videos created in VP, I don’t want to switch to another NLE. I have too much muscle memory invested. I have the entire Adobe Creative Cloud and pay, $770/year, I don’t time to learn another NLE.

I’ve been sending Crash reports to Magix for years through the automated crash reporting system built into VP. I never opened a ticket. Before I do, anyone want to comment on the crash.

My Magic signature hardware is up to date. This problem occurs on all Magix VP versions I purchased (6-7 versions in the past decade). I don’t recall it being a problem in the Sony days. I don’t have this problem on my laptop, only my desktop machines.

I am (was) a software test engineer, I tried all (most) of the obvious things.

@Rich Parry If you really can't figure out where the problem lies, you can refer to my troubleshooting guide. You might be able to get some ideas from it: https://zzzzzz9125.github.io/VegTips/#rendering-q-a

Q: Clicking "Render As" (called "Render" in VP23+) to open the template list causes error/crash?

A: If there's an error pop-up, first try Disabling Error Reporting.
If that fails, try temporarily moving all folders from the codec path "...<VEGAS install path>\FileIO Plug-Ins\", restart VEGAS, insert a text event, and see if clicking "Render As" still crashes. If not, gradually move codecs back, restarting VEGAS and testing "Render As" after each to identify the problematic codec. Once found, avoid using that codec by not placing its folder back. This may prevent VEGAS from importing/rendering certain formats. (Prioritize checking "mxavcaacplug".)

This sounds vaguely familiar. Do you happen to have a Logitech Webcam?

You could try updating the driver, or the nuclear option of temporarily moving lvcod64.dll elsewhere.

I could be wrong. I run a C920 here and I am not seeing that dll, though I don't run run any Logitech software, just the stock windows driver.

Seems ChrisD might be right, Ivcod64.dll is a Logitech .dll file. You should explore updating via Logitech website if you have Logitech hardware installed.
