downloaded clips from ARRI Alexa and Red's new Helium 8k. Vegas didn't recognize nor open either. Any hope for this in the NEAR future? Needs to edit and render 8k files as well.
Resolve and Premiere opened both of these files.
I reported to Sony October 2014 that Vegas would not open Red Dragon files. After months I managed via email to get a response from Sony to the effect that it is being considered to be worked on. Sept 2016 and Magix Vegas finally supports Red Dragon. Hopefully with new ownership Helium will be supported much more promptly
Great Product, but hard to use with "pro" files compared to its competition. Hoping it's coding fix and not fiel type LICENSE stuff.
Pretty sure that for Red at least it is coding. Sony Vegas back then was using an old red sdk. I briefly communicated with Jarred Land, second in command at Red, who replied to the effect that he had a soft spot for Vegas having used it early on and if Sony was having problems he'd reach out to them. My suspicion is Vegas has much less programmers than Adobe Apple etc.Depends how many people tell Magix they want updated Red and Arri support
So true. This is one of the things keeping Vegas out of the "pro" arena, even though we all know it could easily handle pro work.
Was handed a project with Alexa Mini and RED 8K Helium. With VP15, I opened RED Helium 8k but max shown is 4096x4096. I can change that to UHD fine, but... sad face on the 8K still. Alexa MXF still won't open. Those open fine in the other NLEs. :( This is not a FEATURE to add to 16 when others have it now.
You have your answer, use the tools that work.
