VP14 Best Video Card

GeoffreyDean33 wrote on 4/6/2017, 12:54 PM

I've recently upgraded to Vegas Pro 14 from version 10, and at the same time I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10. I'm loving everything about my new operating system and edit software except VP14 seems a little buggy at times. I know there are updates that will make the software a bit more solid but I also know with past versions of Vegas, there were video cards that worked better than others. My system is as follows:

  • Windows 10 64 bit
  • Intel Core i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz
  • RAM 16 GB
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660

Is there a video card that is going to give me any better performance or stability? Now is the time for me to get my system squared away before wedding season starts in big time next month.

Thank you very much for any help.

Geoffrey

Read this thread about the two most likely candidates.

Here are my comments with my i7-3770k when I installed the Sapphire Radeon RX480 as a test before I upgraded to an i7-6850 system.

"I decided to install the new RX 480 in my old system prior to the i7-6850 build when the CPU arrives on Monday.

Sony AVC Internet 1920x1080-30p   (OpenCL) . . . .  N/A      |      0:16   MM:SS

MainConcept AVC Internet HD 1080p (OpenCL) . . . .  1:09    |     0:39   MM:SS"

For this test with the 3770k system, virtually all the improvement came from improved timeline playback from the RX480 rather than OpenCL assistance during render.

You didn't mention the specs of your cameras of other source material.

Thanks John. I use Panasonic GH3's and a GH5. So, if I understand your chart correctly, the Radeon RX 480 rocks. And this is the card?

This is the actual part that I bought from Newegg.

The moral of one of those stories is that Mike exchanged his 1080 for an AMD RX480. The Fury X may be better but probably not enough to justify the extra power or money.

If you are not changing your CPU and MB, I would buy a R9 290X or 390X off eBay because your CPU will become a bottle neck eventually. A 290X should be around $150.
