VP14 Get's error opening file.

Some files that I used to have no problem opening in 12 or 13, VP 14 fails to opens, and gives an error message. Any ideas. Am I missing codecs on Windows 10?

The files are .MP4 Files with the following characteristics:

Please note I tried installing X264VFW which resolved this previously but It did not work for VP14. Very annoying.

Where this MP4 file coming from and 'how' they are created? Screen Recording?

If there are any samples, perhaps some of us can try testing it too.

They are security recordings from Digital Watchdog devices. They are .MP4 files with AVC encoding. In version 12 and 13 it was neccesary to install the commonly used X264VFW codec package in order to open them. However that does not seem to work in version 14 rendering it next to useless for me. Not happy, not sure why I upgraded at this point, I didn't expect to lose basic features.

Can you create a small example file or two and send us a link? We can use it to reproduce the issue, add this to our backlog for fixes, and have the media on hand for later testing. Thanks.

VP14 fails to open however the Windows Media Player has no issue opening so the codec should be on the machine. I tried a number of codec packages, no luck.

Similar issue like my recent found JVC GY-HM200's AVC-422 codec. MediaInfo read this as AVC, except Vegas refuse to accept it (cursor goes to x - cannot put any of it to timeline).

But the free Catalyst Browse can read your media. So the alternative way is to convert Digital Watchdog media using this.

I wonder if Catalyst Browse will help with opening other problem files, like Bandicam footage etc.. Feels like a better product to direct users to than some of the other freeware converters like Freemake Video Converter.

Updating info: Even though Catalyst Browse can read this media... I'm having trouble converting this format to other! you can't export to custom resolution. Catalyst Browse not always a solution (didn't work with Canon XF-AVC codec). The Digital Watchdog records to 704x480 resolution. I can only export to AVC/AAC - but changes resolution. DPX format choice result in 'incomplete' status. The JVC codec is 1920x1080 full HD resolution, so there's a lot of choices. Even for UHD 3840x2160 resolution lack of target choices!
