VP15 hangs and takes ages to load project

For the last 10 months or so my Vegas Pro 15 (build 216) has been working very well. But suddenly it has developed problems. I haven’t changed anything so I don’t know what has happened. Firstly, it now takes ages to open up a project that I have been working on. Granted it is a long project (1 hr 45 mins) but I have never had a real problem with it – it used to open pretty quickly. Now it seems to take forever – I timed it today and it took over 3 mins 30 secs to open. That really is too long. And then once I get it open, I work on it for about 2 minutes and the program then just hangs – you can’t do anything at all – can’t even close it. It doesn't crash - it just hangs. You need to go CTRL+ALT+Delete and get into the task master and close the program. This happens EVERYTIME I try to work on the project. It is most frustrating and makes the program useless for any editing. You have to wait nearly 4 minutes to open the project, then after about 2 minutes (before you can really do any work) it just hangs and you have to start again or just give up.

I then noticed that there was a new build (261) – why doesn’t Magix alert users to new builds? – and so I downloaded it and installed it, hoping it would fix the problem. But it doesn’t. It is exactly the same – perhaps it takes even slightly longer to open the project.

So I am really puzzled by this. I had no problems for several months and everything worked smoothly. Now the program is basically unusable. And I have not changed anything in my system – so it is doubly frustrating.

Are there any setting changes I should try to see if this can be fixed so that the program operates like it used to – and like it should?

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Peter

Thanks Nick It's AVC. But funny thing is, I had disabled so4 compound previously as a result of one of your posts last year. Just out of interest I re-enabled so4 compound just after I made the post - just to see what happens. This time, while it took about 3 minutes to load the project - and then had to build the peaks for all the clips (another 4 minutes or so) - but once that was done, it didn't hang again and I have been able to spend over an hour editing without any problems at all. So I'm not sure why that is so, but it has been working perfectly again.

One of the .SFK files created by Vegas may have gotten corrupt. I've had it happen in the past where 1 .SFK file in a project folder will be many megs while most are a few KB.

By re-enabling so4 all of those were recreated. It's possible that if you deactivate so4 again your issue will be resolved (w/o so4 being enabled) after Vegas finishes creating new peakfiles. Something else you could have tried would have been to delete all of those .SFK peak files before starting vegas to see if that resolved the loading issue.

Personally so4 resolves a number of sync type issues I was having for years so I use it unless I run in to specific problems. I'm hoping the bugs are all worked out soon so it can become the default again.
