I do not know if it is a bug or a limitation, or if I am doing something wrong, but if I add a new videoclip or a PNG to the nested timeline, and go back to the parent timeline, the new added clip is missing in the parent timeline...
Is the new clip added into a new track in your nested timeline? Else try adjusting the length of the particular event in the parent timeline. The length seems not to be updated properly.

@Marco. the new clip is added to the nested timeline. Thanks for the workaround! After adjusting the event length in the parent timeline (expanding it to the right side) the added event "magixly" appears! This is an annoying bug. I wonder why this was not spotted and fixed before the VP17 release, it is not like it is a exotic use-case.
Maybe it's not so much a bug as a license for you to put longer pieces of video inside the nested timeline and not have to worry about that "over spilling" into a predetermined master timeline length. Did you ever consider it in those terms?
Nested timeline is in fact a separate project embedded in the timeline. It can be opened and edited separately (without using these buttons), even on another computer and on another day. Therefore, in my opinion, automatically changing the length will be potentially unsafe. But it would be useful if Vegas asked me to update the length (if needed) when I open a nested project using the "Open Nested Timeline" button and go back.

It is also not possible create e new nest in timeline that is already nested (nest in nest). Therefore still it is a very limited resource that can be improved. Vegasaur's Nest is much more efficient.
