VP17-induced alpha display issues?

Here's an interesting bit of weirdness...

I pulled a previously-rendered clip with an alpha channel (created in AE) into a new VP17 project. I have used this clip before in VP16 with no problem. Even though the "transparency grid" can be seen on the thumbs for the clip in explorer and on the timeline, the alpha doesn't go away. Checked in VP16, and now it's the same thing - set up the clip to remove the alpha, it does so in the thumbs, but doesn't on the display.

After some troubleshooting (including a reboot)...

This particular clip will actually render out the alpha channel, and it will show the alpha removed when preview quality is set to Good or Best, but not Draft or Preview - in BOTH VP16 & VP17.

1-This was not an issue before installing VP17
2-Not all clips with alphas act this way.

When I had originally borught the clip into VP17, the media tab didn't display the normal selections - including the alpha drop down menu/color selection. So, I'm wondering if this file somehow got a glitch associated with it that now effects how any version of VP handles it. It's just weird.

Has this ahppened to anyone else/any thoughts? At least it still renders, though having to switch preview quality and/or having to mute it so it doesn't block everything else is kind of a pain...
