VP17 Unknown error rendering to MAVC 4K 50p NVENC

j-v wrote on 8/23/2019, 5:53 AM

When I put a GOPro7 HEVC file on the timeline with nothing else rendering to MAVC 4K 50p NVENC after 1-2 seconds the render stops with an error but without error message.
Look

The same file renders in my VPro 16 and VMS Pl 16 with also that rendertemplate normal but only after setting the Max. RAM preview to 0. When set there to 200 also an error but with a reason now: low memory, although in the taskmanager it is only 34% use.

Who has a clue about the reason for this behaviour?
Rendering the same file to MHEVC 4k50p NVENC goes normal and pretty fast.

If someone wants to try it also with such a file, here is a small one that does the same: https://www.dropbox.com/s/tl4tptwvjx5d2op/gx010116.mp4?dl=0

@j-v I tested your file on my laptop, aok. Rendered it first at 25FPS Nvenc UHD, ok, then realised you rendered at 50fps, so did 50fps, UHD, still aok, all defaults.

I also did HEVC 50fps UHD, default render template,no problem.

All done on VP17.

j-v wrote on 8/23/2019, 8:46 AM

I tested all possible settings and found the reason it did not render.
When I changed (back) the decoder setting in Pref. File I/O to no use of a decoder The render goes ahead, only takes now more time for that AVC than for HEVC with that decoder selected.
All very strange because it gives no problem rendering the same with the same settings in VPro 16 and VMS 16.
Not using the decoder means a big loss in the new options of 17 and I think it is worth the developers know about this omission in VPro 17 for only MAVC 50p 4K rendering with help of the Nvidia. (Till now) nothing found in other NVenc render options.

On desktop all went normal.
On laptop I did more tests, I tried the most FDH and 4K AVC and HEVC NVenc rendertemplates of the Magix codecs.
Totally 8, 4 AVC and 4HEVC all 4K, default templates went wrong with the showed error with missing message and only on laptop from signature.

See here on screenshot which ones.

and here the most important settings on laptop

Today I got an answer to my request.

Bedankt voor uw reactie.
Zover ik het in de Community lezen kan, is alles opgelost en u mist alleen wat codecs op uw laptop

That answer stated that all was cleared now and that there are missing codecs on my laptop.
Is that helpdesk knowing anything of the newest Vegas version? 👎

@j-v Well you have the problem marked as “Resolved” 🤣

j-v wrote on 8/26/2019, 11:39 AM

The problem is not longer unknow but is due to a new setting in VPro that had another goal.
I also found a workarond what also meant that a new and better way of decoding, editing and previewing of heavy 4K HEVC files cannot longer be used (on laptop).
It turned out to be only a fault in the program on my laptop, but to me it is still a fault, but the title of my question for this fault is resolved ( for me) and learned me for the time being not to render heavy files to Magix AVC or HEVC files from 4K and up with the NVENC codec.

I have a similar problem with 4k footage from my Mavic Pro 25 pal . If I try to use any NVENC or HEVC templates I get missing an error message popping up and also not enough memory to increase my RAM.

If I use a Intel QSV template then it will render it, or should I say so far its not crashed but still a while to go yet rendering the file.

I did have a lot of crashes and lock ups while editing the footage, it only happens on the media from Mavic at 4k, Vegas 17 does not like 4k footage from DJI.

Anybody got any suggestions to try and improve it.

Hope you can see this ok. j-v

You gave no MediaInfo but only a part of the Vegas properties.
MediaInfo is this: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-to-post-mediainfo-and-vegas-pro-file-properties--104561/
and what is your setting in Options/Preferences/File I/O ?

To me looks nothing strange to that file and for VPro 17 not a problem to play and edit with your setting for decoding.....
but it looks you have for render to 4K the same problem as I have.
I found two workarounds:
1. Before rendering, set in Options/Preference/ File I/O that option not to Nvidia NVDEC, nasty is that you first have to close the program after making that setting to start all over again and load your project.
2. Sometimes with me the Option/Preferences/Video set to the Intel does render to 4K Magix AVC or HEVC with NVenc but not always, due to ...?????

Yes j-v I have noticed the same, I have also just foud the post on V17 no proxy files, I think this would have not been helping my cause either so I have set my min and max to V16 settings and it now is creating auto proxys.

But will set my settings to yours and see how I get on. thanks

j-v wrote on 8/27/2019, 4:48 PM

When your hardware meets the system specs for VP17 with the NVDEC set in File I/O settings that is not needed, I edit my 4K 50p HEVC files from my GoPro 7 without any problem at Preview Full in the default setting of no proxies for 4K, in fact UHD with 3840x2160 pixels. It maybe different if you use a lot of FX a.s.o.

j-v I have done some more playing around with this problem, If I set it up to use my nvidia card and set my dynamic ram preview to 0 it renders the project just fine, if I set the ram preview back to defaults 200 it comes up with missing an error and check your ram.

Did we not see this problem in an earlier version.?

j-v wrote on 8/28/2019, 10:54 AM

I think so because what I cant do on laptop with VP17, I'm able to do there in VP 16 and VMS 16 with that Dyn. RAM Preview setting to 0

Got the time line playback sorted, I found the post on setting a profile in your Nvidia 3d settings, I can now playback on best full and no stutter.

My setting the ram to 0 is a bit hit and miss sometimes it works and then out of the blue it will crash on rendering.😬
