VP19 - Instant access to the Selection Tool from the Normal Edit tool

pierre-k wrote on 12/23/2021, 10:02 AM

Hello.
I asked for this position for 7 years and now it is finally here.
But unnecessarily complicated. It is much easier to press the D key twice in a row.

When I want to mark events in the Timeline, I first have to hold down the left mouse button and then click on the right button.
Damn why so complicated?

Every year, I asked you to always perform this function by holding down the right mouse button. No more nonsensical clicking of both buttons, please.

So again:
1. in the free space in the timeline I hold the right mouse button and mark the events I want.
2. I release the right button and continue working.
3. that's all.

If you still don't understand me, install the Reaper audio editor.

I appreciate your efforts, but no one will use the current option.
Believe me.

@pierre-k I use it no prob, but. press & hold the left then drag makes a loop selection, the same as right click, hold & drag, so i guess that could be repurposed & it would be a bit easier, Although left click & hold, then 2 or 3 right clicks gives different options for selection, how would you implement those with just right click & hold?

Please don't complicate it.

Now I will have to wait another 7 years before that easier. Oh no.

While snarky comments don't get us to do things faster, we already plan to do this. I don't know when. @Former user's point does not over complicate things. It's a valid question. Maybe we'll find a way to accomplish both the fast/easy access some want and maintain the useful ability to scroll through the three selection states.

Possible solutions to keep all options:

Hold down the right button to select events.

If you left-click at the same time, you switch other editing options.

Ingenious.

I like the current function of right click and use it more than the option you are requsting. i find nothing complicated about holding both mouse buttons. just my humble input

You can't even use my option because it doesn't exist. She only works in DAW Cockos Reaper, from where I'm trying to get her to Vegas.

I like VEGAS only due to 2 things:

1, the S key to cut;

2, no force twisting my head to an upward view of the preview window.

Others are quite unessential for me, or I adjust my habit e.g. D only for delete, (editing) tools using mous-click. -- Too much short-cuts are no shortcuts.

Hi Gary.

Can I look forward to a change to quick event selection in Vp 20? So only with the right mouse button? Or leave it up to the user to assign whatever he wants to the mouse buttons.

Thanks for the info.
