VP20 and 5.1 editing. Hell!!

Hi.

Is it possible that this feature is broken?
It plays differently than it should every time.

If I set the sound source for each track hard, then everything plays from the correct speaker. The back plays from behind. center from center, etc.

If I want the sound to flow smoothly from one speaker to the others, mega hell ensues.

This doesn't work:
If I don't turn on automation, I can't determine the route manually.

If I turn on the automation, the tracing works, but the audio plays poorly.

For example, it starts correctly in the rear speakers, but as it moves to the center speaker, the front speakers play as well. When the cursor moves back again, all speakers play.

When scrolling it plays fine for a while, but when you move the cursor it gets angry again. The sound does not respect the path and position of the cursor. For example, if the cursor is on the left front speaker, the others play a bit too, and other times it's different. As if the whole Surround panner was misaligned.

Otherwise, it works if I scroll manually with the cursor while running, and otherwise with automation.

I can't explain it more. Not everyone has a 5.1 speaker.

Same issue if you switch to a different 5.1 setup other than "Film"?

With "Film", the center speaker without the front speakers plays correctly. In the other options, when the cursor is on the center speaker, the front ones also play. It should probably be like this.

Now I found out that in order for the auto-trace to play correctly, the cursor must first be in the middle. Only then can you play with automation.

Then everything is ok.

Try the Constante Power option

I think I see the issue now. I used a most simplified project with only one sinus mono sound clip and panned through the middle line from the very center to the very (middle) rear.

When the panner says the center is at – infinity, the mixer panel shows full level or almost full level for the center channel, no matter which pan type I use (no 5.1 speaker setup here).

And now I can't repro anymore. Don't know what happens ...

@pierre-k, you'd set more in the Mixing Console.
