VP21 - 314 Crashing when loading an "old" project

fabianfelder wrote on 5/22/2024, 8:42 AM

Hey there,

I hope someone can help me, as the new update bothers me as well. I was working on a project in the last version, before I updated to 314 a few days ago. Everything worked fine, but now it crashes every few minutes (if not even earlier!). It doesn't matter if I want to move or add something, it simply crashes - sometimes even right after loading the project.

The funny part is that when starting a new project, everything works fine. From FX to adjustment layers and so on, as if there was no problem at all!

No, I was not clever enough to make a save-file before updating. Yes, going to the build before would be an option - but I would loose hours of progress that had already been done.

I am aware of the thread down below but every change I made under "Options > Preferences > File I/O" made my preview go 2fps at best, so no chance for working with this.

I got different errors but the latest are the following:

My system is the following:

VEGAS Pro 21 build 314

Windows Version: 10 22H2

GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6800

GPU Driver: 23.40.33.01-240508a1-402593C-AMD-Software-Adrenalin-Edition

Hopefully there's a simply solution to this problem.

Thank you very much in advance! 🙏

There are known bugs with Radeon GPUs and 314.

There are a couple of workarounds but the simplest would be to uninstall 314 and reinstall 300 and keep working on the same project. Download it here.

Hopefully the bugs will be patched before long for AMD users.

I don't know if I am too early with this but after updating to 315, things seem to work better now. I still got some crashes, but get to work with earlier versions of my project that have been saved before so right now, I only miss about one hour of work.

I will keep an eye on it and hope for the best. I had the installer download already, it was pure luck to have gotten the update notification before reinstalling.

315 is a patch for the AMD bugs so that's good news it's out.

@fabianfelder, I have an all AMD computer and am using GPU driver 24.5.1. Previously, 24.4.1.

I have been working on a project since B208 and have upgraded all along the way. Not that I've had issues in B208, but figure, why not see what is going on. But, before I do a new "save" of the project in the new build, I will do a "Save" in the previous build with the build number in that name. Example: Polish Bison is the original project name. Before updating to B300, I would save it as B208 Polish Bison. Then after updating to B300, rename the project B300 Polish Bison, etc.. Then doing my own incremental saves as I make changes that I don't want to have to replicate if something drastic happens. That way, I won't lose much in the way of work. Thankfully, nothing drastic has never happened... yet.

But I've found my computer to work fairly well with Vegas. Yes, there were some driver issues specific only to Vegas (not the other software I use), but they were eventually resolved usually by going to an earlier driver release.
