VP8 and x64 - Missing HDV Capture Interface

Stuart Robinson wrote on 9/20/2007, 5:10 PM
My editing PC is running x64, I know this isn't "officially supported" but I've used Vegas 6 and Vegas 7 without issue.

In Vegas 8, I cannot capture any HDV. Select "Capture Video" then "HDV or SDI", click "OK" and... and... nothing happens. Nothing at all. There are no errors and Vegas continues to run as normal.

This is with my Canon HV20, which works fine in Vegas 7 on the same machine.

Capturing from a DV source in Vegas 8 works as it always did, bringing up the applicable interface.

Could someone else on x64 (or perhaps even Vista 64) please confirm that the HDV capture interface works for them - or exists at all?! ;-)

think you'll find the capture window is hidden behind the other windows. it's been dealt with in another thread - can't remember which for the moment - so don't panic, it's there....

Thanks. Oddly enough, I thought the window might be hidden so I've tried minimising everything, moving all the elements around, uncoupling the dock and everything else besides, but there's still no sign.

If you can remember the title of that other thread it would be appreciated (there's nothing obvious from a search). Otherwise it's back to Vegas 7 for captures.

PS. I found that thread (obviously didn't look hard enough!).

Unfortunately it doesn't help, my capture window isn't so much obscured as completely invisible. :-(

Same thing happens to me. If you close the preview monitor, & the mixer,
you will then see the HDV/SDI capture window. Don't know if this is designed this way, or a future fix will take care of this behavior.

Can you tell me if you're starting with the default window layout where the dock, mixer and video preview are at the top? If I close the video monitor and the mixer, then the dock just fills that part of the screen and there's still no sign of that pesky capture interface.

I doubt very much that it was designed this way - Vegas 7 doesn't behave like this.

Funny you should ask about the default windows layout. I had to reload my layout, because it became unusable, as somehow I could not see the preview monitor any more. Once I reloaded the original layout, now when I load the HDV/SDI capture module, it appears on screen like it did in V7 as a tab.

Interesting. It has never loaded as a tab in v7 for me, always in it's own floating window. Where was the tab located, in the dock alongside the explorer, transitions etc?

I've tried going back to the default layout but that hasn't helped.

When starting VP8, keep CTRL+SHIFT pressed. Now the capure window should display; dock it (DO NOT close it yet). Arrange your layout, and save it.

Next time, with your saved layout, the Capture window will always display correctly.

Thanks megabit, that seems to have done the trick! I added the capture window to the Vegas dock (it appears as a tab alongside explorer etc) and although it still disappears when exiting the program, it does return when selecting the "Capture" option.

Phew. Now to see if it actually works. ;-)

My bad, I meant V6. & yes, the tab was located with the ones you mentioned.

At least megabit was able to help you
