Just finished editing (gratis) a 20 minute documentary for a friend about his daughter's graduation from college shot on HDV. I burned a blu-ray and a widescreen DVD and they both looked great. B U T - in my opinion, VP9 is not ready for prime time. Here are some of the problems I had (using XP Pro SP2 ):
1: With my 2.6 gig Core Duo, I could never get better than 15fps on preview - usually 5 fps. (footage worked fine on VP8b).
2. Sometimes VP9 would not playback anything - clicking on the play button, using the space bar, or trying JKL. If I minimized it, sometimes when restoring to full screen, it would work.
3. Very frustrating - Open a shot in the trimmer and select the In and Out points. Then select add media from cursor - it would add the media from the IN point at the cursor - BUT all the media from IN point to the end of the clip.
VP9 looks great and has a lot of potential, but it's not ready for prime time. I'll have to stick to VP8b for a while.
