VST plugins not shoiwng up in audio FX options

Hey everyone,

I have an issues with some missing VST plugins with my newly installed Vegas 20 (upgraded from Vegas 18). I have a plugin from ToonTrack called EZMix 2 that I use for some quit mastering and EQ options for some talking head videos I do.

ToonTrack EZMix 2 shows up without any issues in Vegas 18. I've used it in almost every project I've done the last 2 years. But in Vegas 20 they do not show up. I have all the same exact VST plugin folders setup in the Vegas properties in version 20 that I do in version 18. Also, other plugins that are in that same folder as the ToonTrack plugins all show up without any issues at all. Just the ToonTrack ones are missing.

Anyone know what maybe causing this?

20 has a new audio engine. Under preferences/audio, "enable support for 32-bit VST pug-ins"?

Okay, I tried that. It didn't work. I went in and turned on the support for 32bit plugins, went into the preferences and re-scammed the plugin folder, closed Vegas 20, re-opened it, and the Toontarck plugins are still not showing up. All the other ones are there (where there BEFORE I turned on 32bit support) but not the ToonTrack ones. I have the 64bit version of Toontrack installed. Does that make a difference? I believe these other plugins installed that are showing up are 64bit as well though.

The small print on https://www.toontrack.com/product/ezmix-2/ says "a prerequisite is that the host supports VST3, AU or AAX instruments.". No version of VEGAS Pro supports any of those yet. Is it possible that the version of EZMix 2 you had working in VEGAS pro 18 was an earlier VST2 version?

Nope. The EZmix version installed now is the same one that worked with Vegas 18. VST3. I opened up Vegas 18 just now (still installed at the moment) and the EZmix 2 plugin loads right up from the same directory I have Vegas 20 trying to loading from. EZMix 2 still works just fine with Vegas 18.

I found a solution. I googled the issue, and there is another Magix user that is using Magix Acid as a DAW and had this issue with another ToonTrack plugin. The solution was in the replies of this thread:

https://www.magix.info/nl/forum/ezdrummer-3-not-working-in-acid-pro-suite--1299637/
Here was the fix:

"What you may notice is that all ToonTrack Plugins are currently VST3 plugins. What I noticed is that all my other VST3 instrument plugins install with a ".VST3" file extension for the plugin, where ToonTrack's plugs install with a ".DLL" file extension instead. By default, they get installed to your PC's "C:\Program Files\Common Files\ VST3\" plugins folder.

For some reason Acid Pro (as wellas Vegas 20 in this case) seems to have a problem with the the different file extension and being located in the default VST3 plugin folder but Reaper (another DAW program) doesn't as mentioned.

So how to get it to work?

1. Navigate to your VST3 plugin folder : "C:\Program Files\Common Files\ VST3\"

2. Find the EZDrummer3 plugin file

3. Copy or move that file to your VST2 64bit install plugins folder, typically located at C:\Program Files\VSTPlugins\ or C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VSTPlugins\ (ie which ever folder you have Acid setup to scan for 64bit VST2 plugins).

4. Restart Acid. Acid will go through a re-scan of your plugins and EZDrummer will now load and function correctly."

Sounds to me like they're really VST2. This post from March says they're VST2.4. I have 80 VST3 plugins installed. Every single one has a .vst3 file extension. I have 140 VST2 plugins installed. Every single one has a .dll extension. If they really are VST3 with a .dll extension then ToonTrack made a very unconventional choice. Anyway, glad you got it sorted.
