VV 3.0 and minimum hard drive speed - HELP!

I have a power desktop replacement (2.2, 512 ram 32mb video) but my hard drive is only 4200 rpm. If I buy an external firewire drive and install VV and capture to that drive, will that be sufficient? Also, COULD I get by on my notebook with the slower HardDrive speed? Sorry, I'm a newbie - I appreciate any help on this.

I have been capturing to a firewire drive since my RAID array went on the fritz. The drive is a 10K - 80Gig Fujitsu in an IDE/firewire converter box.

Has worked well for capture.

I don't know how slow you could go and still get a good capture.

Several people in this forum have reported they use a notebook without problem. I think SoFo made a mistake in their sales materials suggesting a minimum 7200 RPM for hard drives since again many have used "slower" drives without problem. The issue is more centered around throughput. If you use a newer IDE ATA ultra 100/133 drive even a ultra 66 ATA your drive should be plenty fast enough to not be a problem.

The only time drive speed is critical is during 'print to tape' and 'capture' just rendering you can use a slower driver without any problem. Many including me have noticed problems trying to 'capture' or 'print' if going to/from your root drive. That's why it is suggested you use a seperate drive to avoid any dropped frames.
