I believe you can download a full feature trial of movie factory for 30 days...I would recommend you do so; once you become used to the features, you may be wanting a little more...so might make sense to try it, then decide if it has enough features for what you want...maybe....

I did this and finally went for the Dazzle DVD complete because it allowed for an intro vid among other things...I am a newbie to this world too ...

Lyn,

DVD Movie Factory will return to the menu after each MPEG file. It will also let you set chapters in an MPEG file. If you jump to a chapter from either the sub-menu or by pressing the prev/next key on your remote, it will play from that chapter point to the end of the file.

So what you can’t do in DVD Movie Factory is make a DVD that plays all the MPEG files one after another. To give this “illusion” you would have to use another program to append all your MPEGs into one big MPEG but then you would have to set the chapter points to the beginning of each original file.

PDB,

DVD Movie Factory also allows for an intro video. What were the other reasons that made you buy DVD Complete? Perhaps I should just download a trial copy and see for myself.

jr,

the trial version of movie factory didnt allow for intro movie (as far as I can remember) I actually searched around this forum before I decided on Dazzle DVD complete..one nice feature is that it creates covers/jackets for your cd/dvd cases based on the template in your menus (or customised to a limited extent..) apart from that, not a big difference.but I'm happy with it so far...

PDB Yes I fully intend to try before I buy as long as I can. Lots to learn yet. Right now unfortunately my WD firewire seem's to have bit the dust, so sent it back for warranty, so am solving various computer problems before I can get back to editing. I have to backup and almost start over with some earlier edits I finished and only rendered and saved as mpeg1. Dahh! Poorer quality than the origianl. Hope I can rescue the audio from the mpeg for use in a "re-captured" .avi. I now render and save "finished" clips to .avi and mpg 2 both so if I go brain dead again I have the raw product. It's raining finally anyway. Thanks for the tips.

PDB,

I don’t recall the trial version being any different than the regular version that I bought but I could be wrong. On the third dialog after you have added your MPEG files and are about to set chapter points, there is a check box in the upper right corner labeled “Add introduction video file”. If you click it, when you press the Next button a new dialog is inserted that will allow you to select your intro video. Not the most intuitive design and perhaps you didn’t see it, or perhaps it wasn’t there. But it definitely works in the final product.
