VV3.0c bld 138 REFUSES to Print Video to DV Tape

A month ago I was happy as can be, I had a new product which would allow me to render parts of the project when I wan't around, so that when I came back those parts ran at full speed-full quality. The feature: Print Video to DV Tape.

It in effect was the answer to all my prayers.

Over the last 14 days or so, however, on one project after another, VV3 REFUSEd to Print Video to DV Tape, so that now, it NEVER works dependably. This has been a gradual deterioration. But, there is a random element to it.

The error message which comes up when I try it is:

"An Error Occurred during the Current Operation."
"An Invalid Argument was Specified."

This is MOST strange, because I have not changed ANY of the settings, which are sstill the original ones which came with VV3; AND, they USED TO WORK!

Over time, they stopped. Except once in a while.

I thought once I had figured out the solution, simply by luck. I clicked on the time line, and it Printed. However, the NEXT time, it didn't.

I deleted ALL PreRendered files, from ALL projects. It worked the next time, but not the one after that. In fact, deleting ALL prerendered files, again, didn't help, either.

It seems to Print Video to DV Tape whenever it darned well wants to, and not any other time. I can't find any rhyme nor reason for the do it now, but not this time randomness.

It is VERY disturbing, as this is one of the most valuable assets in VV3 to me, and it just STOPPED working.

Any suggestions?

By the way, I have defragmented several times, killed every program I can think of so that only VV3 and the absolutely mandatory Windows sub-programs are running. No new programs have been added, deleted, nor removed. VV3 used to work just fine on this machine, but not now. I have even uninstalled VV3, cleaned the Registry, and reinstalled, to no avail.

Hi William,

If you are using Vegas defaults, Vegas may be per-rendering to your system drive, in the VV folder... This could be a real problem, especially if you have low space on the system drive.

If you haven't tried it yet, you might assign the folders Vegas uses for recordings and prerenders, etc. to your video drive.

P.S.

I know I sound like a broken record on this folder thing, but it hangs a lot of folks up.

I already addressed that problem, and use separate folders for every project, never the defaults. The problem is that it will work ONCE in a while, and then not again until it feels good and ready.

I have had better luck if I uninstall any previous version, an do a fresh clean insall of VV3#. Not sure way but if I install over the top of a previous install the things that stop working or become eratic are the print to tape and capture parts of the program. Anyway it is worth a try.
