VV3 and FireStore

Several weeks ago, I asked the question if anyone knew whether or not VV3 and FireStore were compatible. Since I did not get an answer, I assumed no one on this forum was working with that combo. I have since purchased a FireStore and a QPS Que M3 80 gig external firewire hard drive ($1100.00 total). I used it last weekend to tape a wedding. The wedding ran over 1 1/2 hours and the Firestore/Que performed flawlessly. The following Monday, I hooked the Que to my computer's firewire card (the same one I use with Vegas) and there instantly was the wedding (broken into seamless 9 min. clips which I simply drug to the timeline, edited, and printed to tape- all without a hitch. Since this was a first time use, I also recorded the wedding to tape. I connected the FireStore to my Panasonic AGDV 2000 firewire port and at the same time recorded to tape with the same AGDV2000. If this continues to prove out, then my primary recording with be via FireStore and tape as backup. By the way, clips captured by the FireStore/Que combo require no rendering within Vegas.

Jerryd, Just read about the firestore in dv mag. If you don't mind, please keep us informed on using your set-up. I occasionally shoot basketball games that have to be edited and on cable the next day. This sounds like an ideal time saver.

Is the video quality the same as the DV?

Thanks, John

It IS DV. Creates a type 1 or type 2 .avi on your hard drive just the same as if you captured from a dv tape using VV3 video capture utility. And an 80 GB drive hold over 6 hours of video.
