On my system VidCap doesn't crash under those circumstances, but does exhibit a few effects.

After turning off my miniDV camcorder I will get a few messages from VV3 informing me of that something is amiss with the selected device. And if I minimize VidCap without selecting a different video device then I can't restore the VidCap window without turning the camcorder back on. This minor quirk does not occur if I simply select a different video device after turning off the camcorder.

This seems like perfectly reasonable behavior to me. I suppose this is the long way of saying, no, I don't have the same crashing problem that you are experiencing.

Post your system specs or no one will be able to offer solutions for you.

-type of camera
-type of OHCI compliant IEEE1394 card you use
-Any IRQ sharing?
-Operating system you are using?
-Type of graphics card? Driver model for the card?

I've had that happen. When done capturing I close the capture program as well as anything I'm not using at the time.

I don't consider these things as a bug or big problems considering what we are now able to do with a relatively small investment in software/hardware and compared to the mid 90s PC configuration/compatabily battles.

Learned long ago I ALWAYS close out capture before turning off DV device, don't even want to find out if it crashes or freezes up.

Hmmm...I've seen under Win9x that when you unplug a DV device that it sometimes doesn't go back to the "no device" state but instead will stall the application for some time, and then pop a device communication box requesting to cycle the power on the device. We're looking into how to improve this in the future. However, it should not be hanging indefinitely...

Also, I'm not seeing these problems at all under Win2k/XP.

I regularly keep vidcap and vegas open simultaneously without problems.

Do you have any other "device" that it would try to attach to that's listed in the Video menu?

What OS are you using?

The thing i've noticed with VidCap is that when you enter either Capture
or Print modes, there's a long pause (sometimes 20 seconds or more)
before the program continues. This happens even when first starting
VidCap. It's not really a problem now that i know to wait for it, but i am
curious as to what could possibly be taking so long.

I am also having a problem with Vidcap, not crashing however it just fails to recognise the MS device (either my Directors cut or Sony DV cam). It works find then for no reason just fails to recognise the device.
Note 1. I can still print to video via VV3.
Note 2. Works with Premier
Note 3. Running XP pro.
