Does anyone know if VV4 works with recent Pinnacle capture cards? The card we have at school has both analog and firewire ports, but VV3 does not currently work on it. I have to open premiere and then cut from Premiere back to VV3 to make it work.
To my knowledge it does not work. I have Studio 8 Break Out Box for analog capture. Capture card also has two firewire ports. I was unable to capture through firewire ports to VV4. Could see the video and capture some, but had many dropped frames. i think it is because Studio adds a special driver for those capture cards.
My solution was just to drop in a generic firewire card. It resides fine with my Pinnacle card and I can capture into VV4 without problems.
I have a Studio Deluxe board with the blue breakout box and I capture via firewire in Vegas 3 & 4 all the time without any problems. You cannot do analog capture because Pinnacle did not create DirectShow drivers for the board so only their software knows how to control the analog side. The firewire port should work for the Studio Deluxe card. If it’s an older Pinnacle card it might not be OHCI compliant and so they wrote drivers specifically for Premiere but not generic drivers.
I have the Pinnacle card (Firewire only) that came with Studio 7. I capture with Scenalyzer and then edit with Vegas. I've never captured directly into vegas, so can't really comment on whether you could capture with Vegas using this board.

The issue is that I am attempting to convince the school I work with that Vegas is the route to take as the learning curve for our students would be about 1/10 the time it is with Premiere and 200 times less the frustration. The tech people in our school have no clue about Vegas and have purchased a number of pinnacle cards to use with premiere. So that is where my question was coming from. Thanks for your quick responses.
