Want to Create Time and Date Clock Track

Can someone tell me how to place a digital "Clock" in a video? I imagine I'll have to create this Clock on its own track but beyond that, I don't have a clue.
I'm not looking for a count-down timer or a frame and/or time indicator. What I want to do is show a (fictional) Date and Time where the seconds "tick" in real time and as the scene advances to Mid-Night, the clock continues to tick and the date, hour and minutes change to reflect the next day.
I have a rudimentary understanding of Sony Vegas, but I'd say I've only climbed about 10% of the learning curve. Please answer this accordingly. 8-]

Thanks for the reply. I suspect your answer would provide a solution for me, but I don't have time to apply the information to my needs just now. I'm up against a deadline and don't have much 'learning' time available. I'm sure I went around around my fingers to get to my thumb, but I did work something out for the project-at-hand.
