Something like this can be done in ProType titler using Rotation, XY offset, possibly some scaling and a touch of the Oscillator as the curtains hit each other and bounce a bit.

Create a fade in or out for the Text event.
Apply Barn Door Transition - Vertical in or out, no border

Ok. Couldn't resist. I tried a little test on "Curtains" closing. You may want something slower and Peter's suggestion might be it -- but I had fun with this. I keep working with ProTYpe and things get easier and easier... Paul

Yes, nice one.

Thanks -- I had fun doing this. Every time I work with ProType, I learn something new. It's clunky compared to Vegas but it does have most of the tools .. I'm hoping Sony keeps developing it. I'm invested now!

I came up with this using the conventional titler.

Paul sent me the veg file for the flying curtains he linked above. I am going to try that next. Thanks for all the input.

John, I looked at your curtains and I think that can work but I would suggest splitting it between letters rather than within a letter (e.g., Curt ains). You could set the kerning so both would be the same width and then animate back to original kerning just as they close.

If you want to get really spiffy, find a shot of a closing currtain and use it as a displacement map for your animated text. This would give your moving letters a real curtain-like flow.

Just my .02.

Try it this way it. might solve your text problem

The text is squashed at top and runs to the bottom and stretched to give a curtain feel

Used only media generators as displacement and copied that to use as shading …….the layout is at end of clip

Clever Rory!

I guess, i might actually apply it as a UVMap on a 3D piece of cloth, and actually have them come closed, if you like you can hire me to make something like that. I don't do a lot of cloth sim, so I wouldn't likely charge too much since it's going to be some experimenting and learning as I do it.

msg me via forums if interested.

I'd suggest trying some video effects like combining a bit of swirl, wave and perhaps a tiny bit of spherize, vary these over time and try placing them in different order -- you can come up with some remarkably organic looking effects playing with these.

That closing curtain over movie screen theatre is already available in those cheapo video effects that come with all of those cheapo video edti programs.
