wanting to import Hi8 video into VMS 8.0c

I have an old Sony Hi8 and I want to import those tapes directly to VMS 8.0. I also have Honestech's VHS to DVD 3.0 with its accompanying VIDBOX converter. Right now I have to import via the Honestech software and then open the file via VMS. Interestingly, VMS sees the VIDBOX, but will not acknowledge it. Having read a thread on changing dll files and such, is it possible to manipulate/trick VMS into acknowledging what it already sees (the VIDBOX)?

Vegas capture works with compliant 1394 Firewire devices.
It may "see" other devices, even analog, but you will not be able to capture from them in Vegas.
