I'm using Outpost for my firewall. Its free and is similar to ZoneAlarm. Typical more powerful version if you want to pay for it, but this free version seems up to the task.

Ask yourselfe a question-why most (if not all) viruses are create for Windows?. How many times did you heard of virus for LInux?.
Windows is easy to set-up and use, but with that come price of instability and and lock of security. If Vegas will support Linux- I will kiss goodbay XP, but unfortunatly I have to use what I have available.

While we all like to sort of beat up on Microsoft's Windows the fact is they are the target of hackers BECAUSE it is the OS most people (over 92%) use on personal computers. So sure, its a target. If Linux was the number one OS or Mac OS 10, or UNIX, then that OS would be the target of hackers.

Is Windows less secure than it could be? Sure. Is it prone to attack? Sure, but not because it is any less well written rather because it has been more carefully scrutinized likely by millions world wide looking for vulnerability issues in part I think because Microsoft is number one and to some extent because Microsoft at least gives off a certain air of arrogance that doesn't exactly make anybody feel sorry for them.

My beef with Microsoft is because they are as big as they are and because they are sitting on a mountain of cash that they don't really SERIOUSLY try to close more security holes, rather relying on the public to tell them this, that and the other thing is broke, has been broke for a long time and is STILL broke and Microsoft never seems to get around to fixing what is broke until something bad happends, and then they only fix one small piece rather than admitting Windows is still badly flawed and really fixing it. Like I said, they've had since 1985... and still counting. How long does it take to get it right? More so when lots of security experts are saying we told you so.

Another thing to think about is using a different brower than IE. IE is a browser built on top of the Windows OS. I stopped using IE years ago. There are several non-Windows browsers out there.
Check www.mozilla.org. If you like a small fast safe browser check out the Mozilla Firebird browser. It is only a browser, no mail add on, no web page build add on---> Straight browser. It does NOT have the stupid default of opening programs IE does. Opera is another light, fast browser.
Be safe, use a fire wall, stop using IE.
