Here's the deal. I just spent the day fretting about this having just bought a new external Plextor 12x10x24 CDRW drive. The PX1210s. It does NOT work in Vegas 3 or Nero under win2k but it DOES work perfectly in Windows XP. So, if you have that option, go for it. I emailed with SF extensively and they are working on the problem as we write these posts. I hope there'll be a solution in 3.0a but I'm not going to keep my fingers crossed.

As for Delta, my 1010 works perfectly under both OSs. What are you using?

I'm using win98SE.
For the Plextor - the 24-10-40 does not work in 'disc at once' mode - only 'track at once' - so I can burn a disk - but only as one large track! (like Prince's Love-sexy!)
This drive has been out a while - I bought it six weeks ago - I don't know how long it's been out before that though. Nero works fine.

As for the 1010 - The .27 drivers work - but the current .41 does not work - I get intermittent crackles on some takes. Apparently I'm not the only one - this is being looked at currently - but as usual I am not certain whether it will be M-audio or Sonic that fix it. (Same story from Sonic on Plector fixing their compatibility)

I bought a Delta66 as my first "pro audio" soundcard when I got my new Win2K machine. One problem: Huge latency issue on Win2K. According to Maudio it was all MS's fault, but they were working on a fix. Then the fix comes out for the latency issue and guess what? You could only record 2 channels at a time under 2K. Kind of defeats the point of buying a 4-input (analog) card, no?

So I returned the 66 and bought an Echo Mona. More $ but totally worth it. I know everybody's been bitching about latency issues with WDM drivers under Win2K, but the latest Echo WDM driver works great. No latency issues at all. So, apparently, it's not so much a MS issue as it is a driver issue. Maudio's drivers suck. Always have. And their support sucks too.

Echo rules. Great advice for anyone shopping for a card w/ more than 2 analog inputs: Get a Mona or Layla. Way worth the extra cash if you're serious about your projects and don't have time for hardware hassles.

If you go to www.plextor.com, they have a list of those Plextor drives that DO support Sonic Foundry products, and the ones that DO NOT YET.

When you buy a NEW piece of hardware, regardless of the software you are using, chances are good that the testing/compatibility mode isn't going to be complete. Give them a little time to do the necessary testing and certification and your new drive should work fine.
