Wave like distortion when rendered to AVI or MPEG2

Hey all:

I just completed a project in Vegas Video 4. I use the film effects plug in for the whole video. The challenge I'm having is that I'm getting a wave like distortion in certain scenes. It seems to happen when the camera is panning. I've seen this problem before when using After Effects. In that case it's just a matter of making sure to render lower field first, but in this case rendering in either upper or lower didn't eliminate the distortion. I thought it might be the film effects plug in but after removing the plug in and rendering again the distortion was still there. I've tried reducing the brightness levels because it seemed to distort in areas where there is a defining line between bright and dark. This didn't work either. Please, any help is appreciated.

I just went through this same edge deformation problem. Prior to applying a video FX via the preview window button, everything was fine. I added a Broadcast Colors FX to the output and got just the wave-edge-pan deformation you describe. Tried everything, as you seem to have. Noticed a significant increase to rendering time as well, very pedantic frame rate all the way through. This effect would not go away, even after I eliminated the video output FX.

Finally, added a new video track - copied the main timeline sans output FX to the new track - deleted the original track and rerendered. Immediate improvement (rendering frame rate jumped back up) and final render was "wave free."

It was almost as if the video timeline had become contaminated in some fashion. Let me know if this helps, please. By the way, that was on V4c, am now running V4d and have not experienced a similar episode.

Good luck, DGrob

Thanks DGrob:

I'll try your solution. I'll also download the upgrade.
