wax transitions in V8

Randy Brown wrote on 10/14/2008, 11:41 AM
Hola,
I have Wax transition 1 through 5 installed and can see them animate on the transitions tab but when I drag one to an overlap it states : "please wait" and then after several seconds I get:
" Unable to find video event length. If you are running Vegas 4 and above, please check if you can run scripts because Wax needs that ability."
I run the batch render script so I'm guessing I have scripts enabled right?
Anything else you guys can think of?
TIA,
Randy

Randy,
There were some script header statements that changed along the way - not sure which release (suspect 5 to 6). If Wax is running scripts from a folder, you might check one of those scripts with a text editor and compare it to one you know runs on VP 8.

Thanks very much!

Hey randy,
I took a look and it's all under the hood with Wax. I installed it and it did not work with VP8. Uninstalled and re-installed in V6 and it worked fine.Suspect it needs to be fixed at the author level. Sorry...

For the record, in script files, when scripts first became available, this was somewhere at the start of the script file - import SonicFoundry.Vegas;. It was changed to import Sony.Vegas;, sometime after Sony bought out Sonic Foundry.

Vegas 4 said "SonicFoundry" - Vegas 5 and up use "Sony".

To get Wax to work, you have to run the Wax configuration program and make the changes that I posted a few days ago:

Wax Settings

In the other thread John said;
In addition to setting RAM Preview to zero in Vegas, you may also need to set the preferences for WAX by running the "Wax 2.0 Preferences" utility outside of Vegas. Here are the settings I use which seem to work (checking the "Dummy Host Media" box seems to be the key thing):

Thanks so much John...it now works perfectly. I don't ordinarily use transitions or fx but I'm working on a car racing project that has to have them.
I would have had to buy something if I didn't get Wax working...so thanks again VERY much!!!!

Randy:

Tell me if you run into the following problem with wax; On the transitions you get ONE frame from the FOLLOWING clip at the start of the transition. I'm having this problem and I can't figure out if it's something I'm doing wrong... or it's wax itself.

My present work around is to render the transition out then re import and remove the frame... which is a pain in the ......
