Way OT: Republican Convention

Anyone watch Nightline tonite? They white balanced their cams for indoors, everytime they step outdoors, it's balanced for flourescent. It's horribly blue, looks like crap. Penn Station looks exceptionally green. Makes me wonder what's up with the camera crews. Very little is corrected except for the stuff directly inside Madison Square Garden. MTA uniforms look green.
Can't help but wonder if viewers even really notice or care. If so,...why do we all work so hard at our craft?

haha, i notice many technical things someone would usually not notice on TV, and im only a 17 yr old amateur. For example, if there is the slightest flicker or distortion on a rendered DVD that no one notices anyway, i will do the entire thing again. People think im insane, but oh well, that's the price of perfection.

Anyway, It may have just been network carelessness, because I was watching Fox News and their footage from the convention was fine.

What struck me is how it's the first time I've seen any moderate Republicans in almost four years! I guess I'm venturing a lot further OT.

Spot, I missed it but knowing ABC's spin on the RNC, I've surprive that they didn't have the distortion filters on. It's all in the framing of the shot, did the picture look dispressing?

Did you see when Ahhhnold called Adobe Premiere users "Girlie Men?"

rirdale, Good One! Didn't he say Final Cut Pro, too?

Speaking of working hard at a craft, who wrote that speech for the Bush Twins. Yikes.

I'm waiting to see GWB's psychodelic tie, the one he used on TV a few months ago. Flickering, flashing, moire patterns.... Totally awesome... Must be from his days in the guard...

Bush wears a strobing tie? I doubt that will happen.

Bush's best image people are working this show. Look closely at the podium and tell me what it resembles.

I don't know if other White Houses have had one, but Bush has an official cinematographer. He's quite good, favors shooting during "magic hour" and has rented Musco light and shipped them across Europe to make the background "pop" right.

Here's a copy of the copy of the original Times article.

What? You mean we won't be treated again? Rats...

Wow that second link is psychedelic! It looks like someone dropped the Pixelan Chroma Warp filter on his tie.

kos just pointed to this picture of Laura in long shot and George in close up projected behind her 40 feet high. I think media critics would call it an overdetermined image.

Further OT: A group of protestors is next my office building protesting in front of the CBS offices. Don't know what it's about. Lots of police. Lots of bike cops too. There's also a contingent of bike cops in plainclothes. I'm not sure how well they would blend in with the protestors since I counted three of them wearing NY Giants jerseys.

Speaking of blending in, I learned a neat trick while much younger, and hitchhiking around Germany (while it was still safe). I wore a coat and tie, and my clothes were in what resembled a typical business man's briefcase, albeit a large one.

You would be AMAZED at the expression on people faces when they realized that they had picked up some young American and not a stranded German businessman. Everyone was delighted once we got into a conversation, but they were stunned for awhile. Made quite a few lifelong friends that way. Met some VERY important people, too.

I just don't understand some of the protesters at the RNC. If they wore coats and ties and carried briefcases, they could practically walk in the doors. As it is, they can be spotted a mile away. Interesting mindset on some people.

Actually a couple of protesters did get in to the convention last night and were arrested once they showed their colors. So much for security...
busterkeaton wrote on 9/2/2004, 5:56 PM
The NY Daily News heard that security was kinda lax and they had a reporter try to get in and few hours later, he got to watch Cheney's speech.

He dressed nice and started asking delegates for their guest passes and voila, he's on the floor.

They've arrested about 1,700 so far. They have them in a jail they created on an abandoned pier. Apparently, they has been a lot of people getting rashes from the floor of the pier (motor oil and asbestos are the rumors*). They are telling people not to have any exposed skin on the floor. Which is probably pretty tough when they are holding people for nearly 40 hours. A judge just forced them to release 500 people held since Tuesday. (The law is you have to be processed in 24 hours. This is not for serious crimes. Most people are being released with just a desk ticket.) Veterans are protesting tonight. It will probably be over 2000 arrests.

*I just found a jobsite listing sites with asbestos and pier 57 is on it. That's ugly, my grandfather died of Mesothelioma from asbestos exposure.

I can imagine the law suits the city is going to have to fight because of THAT!
