What sort of style are you after? You could always make your own too...I am a complete music neophite, but with good acid libraries, you can put tunes together really quite efficiently (no, they probably won't make you rich in the music industry, but saves you loads of legal hassels....)
To see what you can create with Acid, check out Acidplanet.com (and at the risk of making a complete "fool" of myself, check out my recent "piece" - can't bring myself to call it anyhting else.... http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=423289&T=3461)
A lot of the wedding guys use Sonicfire pro. I'm considered to have negative musical capabilities, let me near a tune and it'll go out of key so I find it ideal. Not cheap but it'll match the music to clips on it's own T/L, I render the music out as a .wav and bring that into Vegas as a new track and mix to suit.
I think they have a package with music specifically for wedding guys.
Actually, a lot of the wedding guys simply use whatever the client provides.
I can't recall a single wedding video speaker at the WEVA expo that used anything else than the music provided by the client. One speaker even said thier brother was a copyright attorney who had reviewed the law and said that the use of client provided music in wedding videos was a "grey area."
SonicFire is pretty neat though - and you can even import that copyrighted material into it and manipulate it some.
Interesting options indeed...hadn't heard of SonicFire. I think if you're even slightly musical it can be a lot of fun to compose your own music...just need a good tool. I use Reason for such tasks, and in fact just got into editing my sister-in-law's wedding footage. I knew prior to writing that she wanted the music to sound like a soundtrack so I listened to several and dove in. I'll post a bit for you to sample if you'd like to see what Reason can do. Keep in mind the video is basically un-edited and I cut it short for that reason. You get the idea though. Another really good but slightly more expensive option in the vain is GigaStudio. The sounds in the package are unmatched in my opinion.
> ...the use of client provided music in wedding videos was a "grey area."
I am not a lawyer, but I believe it is only "grey" with respect to how much they can prosecute you for. It is clearly "illegal" to use the client’s music without acquiring sync rights to create your derivative work since purchasing a music CD does NOT give you the right to sync it to video for commercial use.
Guys, thanks for your input. What I am looking for is a catchy & lively music to be introduced during the first few seconds of a wedding video or other social functions. Something like what you hear during the opening scene of a James Bond movie. Can ACID do this ? What about its learning curve ?
You can go to any number of music providers online and buy one of their libraries (read the usage fineprint carefully...) or go to eBay and buy a collection there (hit and miss when it comes to quality) or contact a production company that could give you a custom music bed at a reasonable price.
We are currently working on an affordable solution to such dilemmas -- music you can use anywhere, completely royalty free, very reasonably priced, downloadable immediately.
If interested, you can email: royaltyfreedownloads (at) harkproductions.com for more details.
You work for Hark Productions? I must say the gorpeous piano and sustained inversions are just wonderful! especially for someone like me who has no musical backround... It's just the sort of samples I've been looking for! Your collection, together with Sony's "Total Spanish Guitar" are my favorites by a long way...I find it hard to find samples which allow for the more traitional type of tunes, as opposed the the techno/house whatever styles (I guess I show my age here..)
I'm interested in your other offerings too... but a bit weary of the more techno stuff...Which other libraries would you say follow the piano and sustained inversions style?
Thanks again for a wonderful collection,
Paul.
PS, regarding your comment on the new stuff (downloadable music), would that be a similar offering to smartsounds? (not that have smartsounds, but everyone says it's a good solution for a quick soundtrack etc...) Thanks again.
Late edit: I'm no too comfortable actually discussing these topics on the Sony forum (given that Sony do sell loops collections too...) kind of feel I might be abusing the board somewhat...any other place to discuss these things other than email? or is it ok to do so here everyone?
PDB -- Thanks for the compliment. Gorgeous Piano, in particular, was quite a time-consuming project. There was easily 200 hours into that project -- about 2 to 3 times the normal amount. It was worth it, though. Being able to replicate the same pattern in different chords without transposing is pretty cool.
Peter -- We don't do any sample libraries at this time. Only loop libraries. We had a pretty healthy loop sampler that was part of the giveaways at this summer's VASST tour (Thanks to Spot and Mannie at Sundance Media for giving us that opportunity).
As for the appropriateness of the post, I don't think it's an issue. Responding to someone else is a lot different than posting an "advertisement" thread. I'm not doling out URLs & coupon codes. I know that when I'm looking for a resource, I welcome people who reply with, "Yeah, I do that." People talk about non-Sony products here all the time. I actually like to hear from the creators - whether it's Spot's training DVDs, Jet's scripting programs or Kelly's transitions & backgrounds. I actually think we NEED a page somewhere with a listing of forum user-provided support services (plugins, training, music, effects, etc.) I own Tsuanmi, a few Zenoté plugs & some of Chienworks' transitions -- love them all, and would never have heard about them if it wasn't for seeing it here first.
And in case people disagree, let the flaming begin : )

I actually couldn’t agree more. Hark Productions and other loop developers are supporting ACID and not competing with Sony. Sure Sony sells loop libraries too, but they would be a fool if they saw other loop library manufacturers as competition. They can’t do it all. The acceptance of any software package by its industry is often measured by the 3rd party support that it has. I'm sure Sony welcomes the support.
