I just watched both the short and long videos.

In my opinion, the videos are excellent!

The question is, did the videographer do all that was agreed to in the contract? According to the bride, he did not.

I have not seen the actual contract so I cannot comment on that part. It will be up to the court to decide if the videographer fulfilled the contract or not.

It matters not if the video is excellent or whatever ones opinion of it is. If the video did not meet what the bride expected from what was agreed to in the contract, then the videographer failed.

As for doing wedding videos, they are extremely tiring and way too unpredictable for me to mess with!

a. i have no problems at all with the videos. they're the sort that can be viewed on any wedding site - arty, attractive, meaningless to other than those in them.

b. exactly what was in the 'contract', whether written or verbal is another thing entirely and that is the crux of the legal argument. if it's in writing and the terms weren't fulfilled, the company gets what it deserves. if it's unwritten then there's a fair degree of he said, she said, and a lot of bad will, but not necessarily any major financial pain.

c. 12+ years ago in sydney i knew and occasionally 'on lined' 'video clip' style weddings (the whole schmozzel to a song of the couples choice) for a company that charged $3.5K>. they we're booked solid, and at the time i thought their product pretty cool indeed.

d. i can count on two hands the number of paid weddings i've done in 30+ years. my cheapest was around $1.5k, the most expensive $4k. all were single camera and shot as 30>50min mini doco's with lots of 'interview' type grabs and stills. i'm told that some are still watched 10+ years later;-)

e. from reading, viewing, etc., what's expected of a 'pro' wedding package i think $12k is reasonable; a good plumber is around $110hr, take three of them for a long day, one for a couple more days editing and you hitting around $6k just for labour costs alone...

Well it could be that she didn’t love him, he didn’t love her and the guests didn’t care, and now how’s that the cameraman’s fault?
Could be that the bride and groom thought that money is what makes a wonderful wedding and a marriage and so it’s the cameraman’s job to fake it. they should have got 1 helava producer to fake all the shots like we do in commercials.

On the audio side can’t comment sounds ok to me.

Nothing wrong with the visuals or composition or cuts not bad at all for event filming. Filming events is not easy it’s much easier to film setup shots because you get exactly what you came for.
Grading could have a lot more feel.

Visual arrangement and story = mind and mood = could be a lot better = nothing = people arrive= bride arrive = get married. A bit shallow I guess like I said maybe
There is no emotion cause there was no emotion. A bar fight although not recommended would have been entertaining.

Most likely the bride thinks she actually looks a lot better than what the cameraman captured.

riredale, did they like your video? Are you glad you did it?

I would rather dig ditches, flip burgers ,practice law, almost anything than do weddings. Hope the dude had insurance

I watched it and I saw nothing wrong with it except the price. For that kind of money I would expect more. But as a wedding video its fine.

Barry, yes, they loved the video DVD, handwritten letters of thanks from both bride and groom. Grandmother in hospice saw it, loved it, then passed away a month later. So, yeah, I guess I notched another "positive Karma" on my ledger up in the Great Beyond. And I gained some experience of what to do (and not to do) when shooting a wedding.

But next time I want $12k.

Well that's good. Nothing like some positive Karma and a happy Grandmother, sure beats getting sued.

I can see why not all like to do weddings & event... this gives me another view...
Perhaps 'what make it boring' probably it is the same 'thing' over and over again..., all the time..., and I also agree these are 'Record Keeping' type videos, and that's what I think about it all the time...

Not just too short of time to edit them together and beautifully polished, but also during shooting days, especially in preparation, or, for common Asian weddings, those traditions... must be prepared all the time...
Today's competition has also given the situation more challenging, more expectations, budget challenge.

I still thinking if these field still considered 'easy-to-do' for first timers (in videography in general)?*
*Sounds easy, but when you lose that important moment (wedding vows, ring exchange), it is also a disaster...

Now whether there is a failure of promise, or mis-communication between the bride and videographer for this case, we can't comment those then...

Thanks all...

Well, consider it did have a LOT of music in the background. I'm sure it stepped on quite a few copyright toes.
Jerry K wrote on 2/15/2014, 10:27 AM
I liked the music but it wasn't music I ever heard.
I got the feeling it was buyout music.

Neat copyright takedown! Video taken down because the bride didn't like the video and doesn't want it, wants the $$ back and nothing to do with it.
