Weird MPEG playback

Hey there guys. Got a quick question.

I recently rendered a DVD Arc. stream (widescreen) and when I'm playing it back (in both Windows Media Player and MPC) I get a strange skipping in the middle of it, yet when I preview it in DVDA, there is no skipping and it's quite seamless.

So my question is, when it's on a DVD, will the skipping still be there, or is it due to it being a DVDA stream or something?

Thanks!

Is the skipping in a fast motion scene?
What bitrate settings were used to render the file?

Thanks for the speedy reply!

The scene is a tad bit fast, essentially there's a chair being pulled out quickly and a guy sitting in said chair.

The bitrate settings used were Variable Bitrate with a max at 9,500,000, an average of 6,000,000 and a minimum of 192,000.

Well then burn a DVD, it should be fine.
Sounds like a player / cpu issue on your computer.

have to say i never record a bit rate greater than 8.5k - there's still a lot of older players around that have problems handling high bit rates....

Well, I burnt a DVD and there was no skipping.

... But now, I'm curious as to what might be going on with my CPU/Player(s). Any suggestions?

As ushere just pointed out, it is probably the peak framerate, coupled with other demands on your system. Try lowering the max bitrate to 8 Mbs. Also, I use a min bitrate of 2 Mbs to prevent blocking in fades and transitions.

UPDATE: Following the fine advice you 2 gents gave me, there is no skipping now. I put the Max at 8,000,000 Mbps and it's seamless!

Thanks a lot!
