Is this has something to do with the bit rate?

Maybe. What bitrate did you use?

Does it play the first 10-20 seconds badly / quickly, or does the player just miss it altogether? Is it always the exact same amount of time that gets skipped, or does it vary?

Probably not directly. 90% of the times I have seen this, it has to do with bad media. What media are you using? Download and use this tool

CD/DVD Speed

to test the quality of the burn you have made. If you get really high error rates, it will give you direct evidence that your media is no good. There is lots of junk out there.

I'm having similar problems with my HP dvd640 (USB), but further into the burn. I'm using DVDA3.0c See more specific comments on "Burners Compatible with DVD-A" today.

Nero says ASPI is manadatory for USB devices. But there is confusing data on the link you provided - do I use Nero's ASPI manager (they seem to imply only for NERO products), and if so, how do I "install" the dll and where? If not, what ASPI manager works well with DVD A3, where do I get it, and how do I "install" it?

Thanks,

Is there a reference chart available for error rates and the level to be expected? I looked through the site and was unable to find one. The disk I tested had an overall quality score of 97. I would think this is good but would like to know how it compares. (Using RItek G05 disks burned on Pioneer 111 burner with nero)
