Weird render with static images

clarkerza wrote on 3/29/2022, 8:27 AM

I am using build 550 on a PC with 32Gb 3200Mhz, 5Mhz I7 8086K and an RTX2080Ti and a few SSDs.

I have used Vegas Pro since V10 but only for what I call basic editing so please bear with me! 😀😀😀

Yesterday after upgrading to the latest build, I tried to render 5 static images in a short intro all lasting for about 2 seconds each, so the next appeared when the beat of the music changed. This was an intro to the main video. It showed fine on the preview window and also on an external 4K monitor (after disabling GPU acceleration as I've constantly had issue with this locking up on Multi Camera preview) . When I rendered using the NVENC optimised UHD2160 @29.97FPS template and not using any transition between each photo, the first change was OK. The next change of picture is delayed about 1/2 second and then the images distorts and then the next picture shows too early and is corrupted and then last few are changes are fine. If I overlap each picture with a 0.1s transition and render using the same template then it's fine. Should there be any issue when not adding a transition between static images.

I did have to log in via the web to this forum as since I've upgrade to build 550, the Vegas Hub Login page is just a blank white popup - but I am not really fussed about that.

Apologies in advance as I am sure I have not used the correct technical terms in the description of my issue!

Cheers

Clarkerz

@clarkerza Hi, I've had problems in the past using NVENC when there's text or pics added to a project, similar to yours they end up in the wrong place or flicker back to an earlier pic/text in the timeline, now I use the render option that doesn't have NVENC at the end if there's pics or text added, i'll try render that portion of the project with pics/text separately so that if there is an issue i can easily redo it, then i'll swap that rendered section for the pics/text on the timeline so i can render the whole project with NVENC . , sorry I haven't a solution,

Hi Gid, many thanks for the very quick response. I'll try that to see if that makes a difference.

@clarkerza @Former user

I had an artifact rendering issue with AMD VCE long ago when the video didn't align on a frame boundary.

Details: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/please-test-the-amd-vce-uhd-render-in-vegas-pro-15-and-16--114956/

Vegas Pro 19-550 has much better way of showing when that happens.

Former user wrote on 3/29/2022, 10:40 AM

@john_dennis 👍 I have that enabled now because even some of the Vegas renders don't complete with a full frame at the end, 🤷‍♂️ don't know if pictures have this same problem 👍 gonna load a handful of pics n seee......

I have a folder called 'partial end frame' just for that reason, it's a bunch of videos that all have only ½ or ⅓ of a frame at the end, when Close Gaps is chosen, the videos with a partial end frame don't close completely & render as a black frame, so with Quantize to frames i can now see what needs trimming,

in this pic none of the picture media have the red line at the end that Quantize to frames shows but the video from the folder i mentioned does,

I don't think this is the problem with the render though, in the past a picture in a video has appeared at the beginning after rendering, but on the timeline it's at the end 20mins down the timeline, text has duplicated itself, images on the timeline that are similar but not the same flick back n forth as if Vegas can't decide which one to render, 🤷‍♂️

@john_dennis @Former user  . I did try render without NVIDIA as @Ged suggested and it rendered the video perfect but there was about 200ms constant delay which was notable on the speaking bit. I could slip that so that would work. I did also enable the quantize to frames as @john_dennis suggested and that showed a lot of errors so I fixed those. It didn't fix the judder/factoring when using the NVIDIA template when rendering the stills but it's a great tip so thanks for that. The workaround I've done by overlapping each image by 0.1 seams to "fix" it and it only 12 seconds of video. If I render the video the stills were taken from and replace the static images, then it renders fine so it's some qwerk with the images I think.

Thanks both for your help and advice!!

@clarkerza

Consider using Tools/Render To New Track. Replace your stills with a lossless intermediate render and remove them from the project. It's probably a good idea to save the Vegas project as a new version.

I might as well get this out of the way before it comes back on me. If you render to a new track any Track fX get enshrined into the intermediate render and will be executed twice if you replace the intermediate on the same track. See the color shift after the track was replaced?

That’s a great idea, thanks for that John. Will defiantly give that a go in the morning.

@john_sennis

Hi John,

I created the template the same as yours except the video format I used was "Sony-10bit YUV Codec" as I don't seam to have the Magic one for some reason. It created the 35s clip perfectly and played OK however as soon as I rendered it, the same thing happened again. I think I'll use my workaround for now which is overlapping the images by 0.1s which appears to fix it, although the engineer in me would still like to know why it's doing it.

Cheers

Andy
