What A Total Plank I've been . . .

Grazie wrote on 2/3/2012, 8:01 AM
How long? 10 years on this Forum . . .

Seeeesh . ..

Plank 1] I've had, a year ago a beautifully spinning Caption wheeling across the screen, and for the life of me I haven't been able to reproduce. I get the WORDS stuttering across. Nasty . . . .

I have a SKYPE session with Uncle "Bob", who invites me to use Supersampling. Eh, yeah . . I've done that before and I still can't make it work as it did. . . . Or had I??

Plank 2] While I had the finished article spinning, I wanted to improve the spin rate by increasing the Rotations=Angles in Pan/Crop. No matter WHAT I did this morning., nothing would budge. It stayed firmly at a single rotation. Arggghhh....!

OK, this is so embarrassing . .

1] Previously I had had Supersampling as part of the treatment but had momentarily turned it OFF to work it the sequencing - twit! And that was like 8 months back, and I hadn't turned it back on.

2] The reason I couldn't get the Rotations to pick up speed was that I was STILL previewing within Windows Media Player and NOT VP11.

Now, where did I put my knitting . . . . ?

"I have a SKYPE session with Uncle "Bob", who invites me to use Supersampling."

Not that this has anything to do with your problem, but I've always wanted to say this to somebody who would understand:

Bob's your uncle!

Actually, your experience is reassuring in that I'm not alone. I describe my thought process as being somewhat like a puppy wandering through a field of new discoveries. I'm focused until the next butterfly flits by, then I'm off on a new track...

Dont be too hard on yourself mate, happens to the best of us..

Could be one of those 'making mistakes makes us better' thingys...

I had one yesterday afternoon, not related to video in any way, but still frustrating. I couldn't get my internal email server to talk to itself no matter what i tried. Spent 2 hours futzing with all sorts of network and loopback settings to no avail.

Then i accidentally came across localhost blocked in the firewall. Turns out that a bunch of idiots in Nigeria had sent virus-laden emails to some of my customers, which bounced through my server, got rejected by my clients' ISPs, and then bounced back to my server. My spam filter saw the multiple activity and automatically blocked the source, which was ... my server, and added itself to the firewall. Oops.

So now i've adjusted the spam filter to not block itself, and also blocked the Nigerian ISP that was the original source.

Just this morning I was trying to get decent audio levels out of my Beachtek. I had everything turned up all the way with just barely a whisper coming out of my cans. The talent is all wired up and I'm just their kind of scratching my head. Then I saw that one switch, you know, the mic/line level one. Flipped it to the mic position and... well let's just say that my ears are still bleeding and I have a new tinnitus pitch added to my collection... I'm just glad that none of us are surgeons!

It's alright. I think we've each discovered very basic things we didn't know that in hindsight may have been obvious - especially after just a cursory browse through the 'Overview' !

I've got an Uncle Bob. But he could be more accurately referred to as an Aunt.....

@ Barry W. Hull:

"It's a piece of wood that you walk on, but that's not important now..."

(Sorry I've just been watching Leslie Nielson movies!)

"What is a plank" - Being "thick" = dumb/stoopid as in the saying "Being thick as 2 short planks". And being only one of those - a "plank", kinda nails me.

Hah! Forum Plod just hit me with the "s t u p i d" word. So I spelt as stoopid instead. Now ain't that stupid?!? (I did that on purpose!! - Wouldn't like to see the "Language-Bot" being made redundant)

In Strine it's "thick as two bricks" I think.

BTW what happened to that NDA you swore me to :)

Thanks for a thread that kept me smiling all the way through for a change. We've all been planks at some point, haven't we?

"We've all been planks at some point, haven't we?"

Germany has an institute devoted to the study of the worst cases, The Maximum Plank Institute

Bob, with apologies.

A good friend of mine from college was a hog farmer. He used planks to get the attention of the hogs which he said even with a plank was difficult.
