What am I missing? Slow renders, slow performance.

I just added a Threadripper 2950x to my system, and my renders are still pathetically slow. Talking minutes to render 25 seconds of video (4k). Probably 3-4 minutes. It is only like this with RED footage (3840x2160) so far in my test. Using the Magix AVC/AAC MP4 for the render. What am I missing here

A7s2 4 second clip takes 11 seconds to render.
RED 4 second clip takes 69 seconds to render.
Both same resolution, both same render settings, both same original file location, both same destination. I get that one is already an mp4, but it shouldnt be a less than 10% real time render speed for the .r3d files.

Basically gained nothing coming off my i5 I just dumped off. It is not a hard disk bottleneck, raided drives are fast. My GPU is an AMD Radeon HD 7970 (yes latest drivers) but I refuse to believe GPU alone is the problem, especially when talking Vegas, task manager shows it using 13% at most. Preview scrubbing sucks cant preview 4k RED footage smooth unless I am at Preview (Quarter) with a 1080 project setting displaying at 480x270 preview window. Buncha DDR4 RAM, 32GB at the moment but normally run 64GB.

At my wits end with this program. Vegas Pro 15 build 387. Is Vegas really this useless with RED footage? All things considered its a pretty monster system.

There is a build 416 out. Worth a try.

Tried just now, same result.

Have you tried the 2 different memory modes? UMA vs NUMA? Are you on the latest BIOS/UEFI version for your motherboard?

Maybe try adjusting the CPU affinity so that all the processes that Vegas launches are only running on CPUs 1-8 or 9-16 depending which PCIe slot your GPU is in. This is just an idea I have on issues with the Infinity fabric connecting Die 1 and 2.

Does "WinSAT formal" from an admin command prompt show your memory bandwidth where it should be for the memory you have and the number of channels? How about the "Video Memory Throughput," is this in the neighborhood of 32GB/s?

Does your DPC latency look low and flat? https://www.thesycon.de/eng/latency_check.shtml

Did you try VP16, is that any better?

Have you tried your footage in Resolve, does it playback the same or better? How does it playback in REDCINE-X PRO.

Have you tried converting your RED media to another format like Prores, cineform, or avc-intra, and does it playback better?

What project colorspace mode are you rendering in, 8-bit or 32-bit mode?

I do not think there has been much RED development/optimization in Vegas since about v10-13. So you may need another app to work pro formats.
