"Stay away from Broadway Photo!"
Well actually Broadway Photo will sell it at that price....as long as you buy $2000 worth of useless crap to go along with it :)
FWIW, I bought two XL1s' for $2500 each on a pre-order deal from a dealer on e-bay (Grey Wolf Designs...takes about 6-8 weeks to get them but well worth it considering at that time they were still going for $4000 plus).

Ouch - I just looked broadway up on resellerratings.com - what a terrible rating. Yes, I think I'll stay far away from them. Thanks for the warning.

Beach Camera has a fairly good rating; looks like a few hundred bucks difference is worth it in this case.

Well if given the crowd you're mixing with I guess you know how to shoot film if you can afford it the DVX 100A would be ideal, I mean Panasonic-Panavision, sounds about the same to me.

You could check out dvxuser.com, section there devoted to Vegas users, probably why we don't hear too much about the camera here.

To get it fully kitted out you could easily double the price of the camera but at least it's nice to know that serious people make serious kit for it.

I found that when I purchased my camera, they had two different packages. The lower prices that you are seeing are generally camera only and no accessories such as battery and charger. Those packages are made that way for the AGDVX-100 user who only wants to upgrade the camera to the 100A. I paid $3500 and got three ultraviolet lenses along with it. I ordered mine from Express Camera

I did find the Panasonic at Royalcamera.com for about 2500. Anyone know about this company?

Royalcamera has a very poor rating on www.resellerratings.com (what a great web site), even worse than Broadway Photo.

JVC GY-DV5000U
VF-P116 Viewfinder
Canon 19x6.7 Lens
Sennheiser ME-66 Shotgun Microphone
DR-DV5000 40GB Firestore Unit
Bogen/Manfrotto 505 Head, 525 Legs

Yes, very satisfied. Also relatively expensive, but that's what I settled on after a year of research. Now I just need to make money with the damn thing. :)

Panasonic dx-1 (EZ-1). One of the very early 3CCD MiniDV cameras. Eight years old and still going strong. It's pre-firewire, so I use a MiniDV VCR for capture, but it still gets good pics. Has a big colour viewfinder but no flip-out screen.

I shoot a lot hand held in schools and private homes, need a small camera to be unobtrusive. Hope to replace with (probably) a PD170 later this year.
