Well I can download it and install it but without a serial number you can only run it in demo mode. Would be kind of nice if they're not going to sell it or support it to at least properly put it into the public domain.
I suppose with things like TrueSpace 3.2 now available for free there's not exactly a compelling reason to use Viscocity although it does look an aweful lot easier to use and I hate the idea of anything that might be useful to someone just being left to fade away.
... I too noticed (a year or so ago) that there is something that's not "standardized" between Viscosity and Vegas. I don't remember what exactly but I stopped using this app after a few minutes spend playing with it...
Satish should be coming out soon with a nice addition to Vegas that would permit rotoscopy. If the work is up to his preceding works, that promises a lot. In fact, I still don't get it how come this guy's not been offered a job at Sony / Sonic Foundry ...!
Rotoscopy has been asked for since more than a while now in Vegas. Somebody's sleeping on the switch I guess!
Viscosity doesn't contain a DV codec. Whenever i use it, i render from Vegas to uncompressed AVI and uncheck "Create an OpenDML compatible file". Viscosity will open type 1 avi files nicely. I suppose if i had a 3rd party DV codec installed then it would be able to handle DV files from Vegas as well.
I realize there are professional rotoscoping packages out there, but they never tickled my fancy. I just do it the old fashioned way opening up one TGA file at a time in photshop. That's a total drag, of course, but a workable solution.
There are many other features I'd rather see added to Vegas first, though: like multiple/nested timelines. After bugging the Premiere development team since version 4.2, they finally just added this feature (just after I sold my Matrox hardware and switched over to Vegas).
I downloaded TrueSpace 3.2, (tnx for the link), but I don't see any obvious way to use it for rotoscoping, as you can Viscosity. Am I missing something about this program ? No mention of rotoscoping in the index either. Farss, have you used this program for this purpose ?

Thanks. This program looks about like a quantum level jump in complexity over an NLE app. We should try to get Zippy interested in something like this.
I hadn't been able to 'run' Viscosity when I made that comment!
You're right, Truespace is a VERY differernt program and it doesn't support rotorscoping as far as I can see. However if you wanted something for doing complex 3D text it would be ideal and you cannot complain about the price.
I did invest sometime trying to learn it about a year ago, biggest problem I had was trying to understand the UI. But there's now a very good tutorial available online from Nortel that I've watched and I've been inspired to have another go at it. Tutorial is here:
As for Viscosity, well it looks OK, I guess once you get the hang of it it kinda grows on you, I just found the way it works to be a little obscure as well.
Farss; I tried to view the tutorial in your link, and it sounds to be quite informative-(with the added bonus of being designed for a child's mind), but I"m not getting any video, just sound. Other buffered video I play on the WMPlayer work fine. Just getting the audio and a black screen on this site though. Have you had any similiar problems ? Think it might be a site problem due to overload during school hours ? BTW, I'm on a dial-up connection.
I think the dialup connection might be the issue, I'm in Australia on cable and it plays fine here. Might help if you downloaded it instead of trying to stream it.
The tutorials don't get greatly into the real nity gritty but still they did give me a frame work to work from. Caligari do what a few as well but there so damn fast as to make it hard to remember all that you've been shown.
Couldn't get the video to play on any of my other computers , so it must be the dial-up connection. The tutorials aren't downloadable either. Bummer...
