I'm looking to purchase a point and shoot with at least 720p video and would like to know what HD file formats VMS 11 Platinum HD will smart render. Seems that most point and shoots have AVCHD, MP4, and MOV. Thanks.
As far as I know, VMS will not smart render h264/AVC in any available container, regardless of the file extension.
The reason to the best of my knowledge, is the issue of any Windows NLE to be able to re-index the extremely long GOP structure.
The best Windows solution I know of is VideoRedo h264 version, which is a remuxer, and is still under development.
It is important to note that a typical h264 GOP consists of many bipredictive and pyramid b-frames, and can easily reach 300-400 frames each in length.
Not an easy task for any Windows NLE.
On the other hand, MPEG-2 with a typical 15-frame GOP, and AVI, which is intraframe compression, smart-render with ease in Vegas.
