What I see in the preview is not what I get when I render.

I'm running Vegas Movie Studio 15 Platinum on a PC with Windows 10. I've used it for years and am very familiar with the program and have had no previous trouble. However, just lately I'll have a project looking perfect in my Preview monitor, but when I go to render an MP4 of the project it comes out looking like it's been zoomed in. In other words a third of the project is off screen. It started happening seemingly on its own about a week ago and I've been trying to figure it out ever since. As part of my troubleshooting I've uninstalled and re-installed the software so I've done nothing to the default settings to cause this. Yet on the first project I've tried since re-installing its still doing it. I'm pulling what little hair I have left out. Can anyone help me?

Do a "Factory Reset". Re-installing doesn't reset the default settings. Instructions in the link below. Whilst written for Pro it also applies to VMS. Make sure you tick the box to clear the cache.

Thanks, I'll try that. Right now I've opened an old project that rendered correctly and am re-rendering it just to see what happens. If it comes out wonky I'll give your solution a go.

Opening an old project will open it with the project settings that you applied to that project.

It's what happens when you now open a new project that appears to be your problem. Anyway we await the result of your rendering to see if we need to dig deeper.

I'm so frustrated at this point. I tried your suggestion. It didn't work. I even bought the Movie Studio 2023 Platinum to see if that would help (on sale for $29.99). It did the same thing, besides, I did not like that version at all. I'm so familiar with 15 Platinum that it's like breathing to me. I've tried matching the settings to projects that rendered fine in the past. That didn't work. I have no idea what caused this sudden change in the way the program works. The only thing I've done recently (in the last week) was to load software that would allow me to use my iPhone's camera for Zoom meetings. I did that right about the time I noticed this problem, so just to be safe I uninstalled that software today. That didn't help. Another interesting thing is, when I have a project open, and I go to the Project menu dropdown and click Render As, the program crashes. Every time. It also crashes when I try to render directly to YouTube. What the hell is going on?

Once today I did something that made the render come out almost right, but the Legacy Text overlay would get covered up by the Video track! I can't explain it.

The Project and Preview settings are the same, and I've tried several different settings as well.

The text overlay needs to be on the track above your video track.

MS 2023 Platinum is a completely different programme to Vegas Movie Studio. It is Magix Movie Edit Pro renamed. Vegas Movie Studio was discontinued by Vegas with 17 being the last version.

The fact that MS 2023 also has the problem tends to indicate something is screwed up on your system. Maybe a Windows update or a driver update? Post details of your system especially your GPU.

Well, I was thinking that my system was screwed up, too, but since I had to get this project done I popped for Cyberlink's Power Director 365, and it's getting the job done. Maybe I'll never know what the trouble was, and now I have to learn a whole new program. But hopefully it will do everything I need it to do and be even better in the long run. Thanks for your assistance and insights.
