What is the first .exe file I should click on from my install disc?

Software Product: Vegas Movie Studio Platinum, v.14

Windows Edition: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium; Service Pack 1

Processor: AMD FX(tm)-8120 Eight-Core Processor 3.10GHz

Installed Memory (RAM): 8.00 GB

System Type: 64-bit Operating System

Hi,

Now that I got the external DVD-ROM drive to recognize the install disc, and I've successfully opened the files inside, my question is which .exe file should I click on first in order to the "Movie Studio Platinum, version 14" program?

There's a 'VEGAS_Movie_Studio_14_Platinum.exe' file & a 'NewBlue_VEGAS_Movie_Studio_14_Platinum_Complete.exe' file.

What's the difference? Which one is closer to what I want? It seems the word "complete" implies that the "Platinum_Complete.exe" file should give me more than the one that just says "Platinum.exe". However the "complete" file is only 145mb in size, while the one that doesn't say "complete" is 472mb in size. I would think it should be the opposite, and that the one that says "complete" would be the larger file... wouldn't one think? Yet ironically it isn't.

So I don't know which to install first, or do I want to install both, or do I want to install one or the other, but not both?

Now, I'll assume that the "Magix Music Maker" & "DVD Architect" are stand alone, optional add-ons whose purposes are fairly self-explanatory, but the first two I mentioned that both say " Movie Studio Platinum" are the ones whose differentiation confuses me.

Any help in choosing the right .exe file to open first and getting me started would be appreciated.

Thanks, John

"VEGAS_Movie_Studio_14_Platinum.exe" is the way to go (first) as "NewBlue_VEGAS_Movie_Studio_14_Platinum_Complete.exe" is only an add-on from NewBlueFX (and that "Movie_Studio_14_Platinum" in it only tells the given plug-ins are meant for the use in Movie Studio).

But – you should have regarded EricLNZ's and vkmast's advice and download Movie Studio instead of installing from disc. It is likely the build on the disc is an old one and then first thing you should do is updating which again would need you to download the latest version of Movie Studio. Also this would have been much faster.

Marco, thanks for the input and I realize that there was a speed and logistical advantage to downloading directly from the website and then using my reg number from the disc to register the trial version. And I appreciate Eric & Vk stepping up to try to help me.

However, Eric LNZ did warn me (in his second sentence) that I may not get all the features that were included on the disc (through the trial download version)-- such as the Magix Music maker, etc. -- so I didn't want to risk losing the full functionality of the platinum suite on disc, since that's what I was supposed to receive.

The trial probably only provides the main MS programme which is identical to the purchased version. I forget. The other programmes, which are separate items, that don't come with the download you can install from the disk. I was more thinking of the FX packages. Your disk version of Music Maker will probably want to update itself anyway.
